Chapter 19: Giving You All a Cold Shower

1017 Words
Chen Zhenghao finally felt fear. He took out his phone and called 120 for an ambulance. However, the call wouldn't connect, and he dialed for over two minutes, only hearing a busy signal. Chen Zhenghao's heart sank. With the outside world in the grip of freezing weather, even hospitals were shut down. Although some hospitals were still operational, the snowstorm outside made it impossible for ambulances to come to the rescue. Being a ruthless individual, after much hesitation, Chen Zhenghao decided to perform surgery on himself. At least, he needed to remove the crossbow arrow lodged in his leg. Upon returning home, he retrieved a knife, an alcohol lamp, bandages, and hemostatic drugs from the drawer. As someone accustomed to brawls, he kept these items readily available. Chen Zhenghao cut open his pants and turned pale when he saw the frozen wound on his leg. While the low temperature had temporarily halted the blood flow, the area around the wound had turned purple. His lower leg was completely numb. In despair, Chen Zhenghao, being the streetwise thug he was, decided to perform surgery on himself. The severe cold had somewhat numbed his senses due to the low temperature. Though lacking anesthetic, he managed to complete the surgery through sheer willpower, nearly passing out from the intense pain. Unfortunately, the leg was rendered useless. Lying on the sofa, panting heavily, Chen Zhenghao harbored deep hatred for the person, Zhang Yi, who had shot him. His eyes filled with murderous intent. "Zhang Yi, you little punk, I'll make sure to kill you, for sure!" Chen Zhenghao picked up his phone, having been blocked by Zhang Yi. Thus, he mentioned Zhang Yi in the homeowners' group. "Zhang Yi, you bastard, just wait for me. If I don't kill you, I'll change my name!" The homeowners were unaware of the situation but felt a chill upon learning that Zhang Yi had offended Chen Zhenghao. Chen was notorious for his ruthlessness. However, some were secretly excited, like Auntie Lin, who had a run-in with Zhang Yi before. "The scoundrel Zhang Yi is getting what he deserves. Let Chen Zhenghao beat him to death. This damned guy even dared to insult me!" Even the seemingly innocent Fang Yuqing saw the group messages. She frowned, secretly hoping that Zhang Yi would suffer. How dare he be so indifferent to her, even neglecting to bring her food? Nonetheless, no one dared to speak up in the group, afraid of getting involved. Zhang Yi saw the messages and laughed heartily. As long as he stayed in the safe house, he couldn't care less about a hundred Chen Zhenghaos! Sending a voice message to the group, Zhang Yi mocked, "What kind of trash are you? All you can do is bark like a dog! If you dare provoke me again, I'll make sure to disable your remaining leg!" The homeowners were in shock, realizing that Zhang Yi dared to confront Chen Zhenghao and had seemingly injured him. Chen Zhenghao was furious, clutching his phone tightly. "Damn you, Zhang Yi! Just wait, I'll definitely kill you! I swear those three words of mine will be written backward!" Zhang Yi didn't hold back either. "You piece of crap, if you've got the guts, come over! Let's see who dies first!" The apocalypse had unleashed a different side of Zhang Yi, who was now carefree, unburdened by societal norms and moral constraints. On the other side, Chen Zhenghao was seething with anger. After returning home, with the minimal warmth from the air conditioner, he gradually regained his senses. The intense pain in his leg, however, made him grimace. Now contemplating revenge, Chen Zhenghao believed that Zhang Yi's previous attack was just a result of his own carelessness. With proper precautions, he could easily deal with Zhang Yi. Thinking about the potential for revenge, Chen Zhenghao called his subordinates, instructing them to come over with weapons and help him deal with Zhang Yi. His minions, mostly residing nearby, quickly gathered at Chen Zhenghao's place, eager to take revenge on Zhang Yi. Seeing Chen Zhenghao's leg injury, they were all agitated, shouting that they would beat Zhang Yi to death for their boss. Chen Zhenghao, keeping a straight face, told them, "I'm not seriously injured. Wait until the snow melts a bit, and I'll go to the hospital for recovery. But this guy Zhang Yi dared to shoot me. If we don't kill him, how can I continue my life in this city?" One of his subordinates exclaimed, "Boss, just tell us his room number. I'll go and take care of him now!" Chen Zhenghao nodded, "He lives in room 2401 in this building. But beware, this guy is cunning and has a crossbow. He ambushed me with it." Another subordinate, holding a steel pipe, said, "This guy has no sense of honor! Attacking from ambush!" Chen Zhenghao stated, "Be careful when you go there. I know he's alone. Just don't let him shoot you. Break into his place and deal with him as you wish." His subordinates, being a group of lawless thugs, weren't afraid of Zhang Yi's weapons. Instead, they got excited about the opportunity to openly assault someone during the city's snowbound state. So, armed with various makeshift weapons, they proceeded to Zhang Yi's apartment, intending to force their way in. Meanwhile, Zhang Yi, aware that Chen Zhenghao wouldn't let the matter rest, was unperturbed. He continued playing his game, keeping an eye on the entire building through split-screen surveillance. As Chen Zhenghao's lackeys approached, he could clearly observe their movements. They arrived at Zhang Yi's door, oblivious to the fact that they were under close scrutiny. Unfazed by their threats and door-banging, Zhang Yi continued playing his game. Frustrated by their inability to break in, the thugs intensified their efforts, unaware that Zhang Yi had climbed onto a shooting platform using a water pipe from the kitchen. With a smirk, Zhang Yi turned on the water tap, directing a torrent at the unsuspecting intruders. The rushing water drenched them like a sudden downpour, leaving them wet and cold.
