THE ESCAPE PLAN: AURORA: My neck throbbed where his fangs had pierced my skin. I pressed down on the spot to stop the blood from pooling out. I blink, wide-eyed and standing frozen in my spot as he walks out the door leaving it slightly open behind him. I had thought his absence would make me feel better, that the tension in my body would ease up a bit, but No. I couldn't shake off the feeling of being seen judging from the way he leaned in towards me, the feel of his gaze piercing my soul, the chill feel of his breath brushing my skin and the sharp sting of his teeth sinking into my flesh. It is as though he hasn't entirely left the room, his presence lingered. My legs felt weak, unable to carry anymore of the weight I was feeling. My pulse raced, confusion gnawed at me, just like his bite did. Why did he do that? I tried to make sense of it,but I slowly start to feel dizzy. The effect of the bite slowly kicking in. The room felt bigger and colder now, as if his absence had drained all the heat from it. His last gaze, was it pity, disgust or something else entirely? I wrap my arms around myself, trying to feel warm against the sudden cold that hit me. I sank down on the bed, my eyes still on the door afraid to look away. The door creaked open, I jerked up to my feet , my body tensed up again preparing for whatever plans he had this time. A young woman about my age, only better clothed, enters the rooms. I loosened up a little and sat down again. There was nothing terrifying about her. Our eyes meet as she enters, but she quickly lowers her gaze. "Who are you? Where am I?" I ask the questions as they come in my head, ignoring the bowl of food she placed in front of me. She does not respond, keeping her eyes still lowered and only focusing on what she had come to do. "Where is this place? What pack am I in? " I ask again . She says nothing, only moving around as though she hadn't heard or seen me. Could she be a deaf wolf? I wondered. I lean closer to her as she lowers to pick up the bowl of water on the ground, and ask directly to her hearing. "The man who was just here, who is he? Did you see him?" I pressed, hoping to get at least a reaction. Nothing, The silence starts to suffocate me, pressing in around me like a cage. She turns to leave without sparing me even a glance. I reach out in time and grab her by the wrist. She turns to me, startled by my sudden action and glares down at me. "Please!," I cried out, keeping my voice barely above a whisper. I was starting to feel exhausted from speaking at this point. "Say something. Anything, tell me what is going on, what will happen to me. Am I prisoner here or not?" I poured out my questions. It seems to have scared her instead. She flinches, darting her eyes at the door as if she was afraid of something, someone. She tugs her arm, trying to free herself from my grip. Who or what is she so afraid of? I let her go with her hand slipping from mine, almost causing her to fall. She rushes out the door and shuts it behind her. I am alone again, I wonder how much time has passed, how long I have been here for. Tears start to form in my eyes blurring out my vision and thoughts, my stomach growling at the same time. I wiped off the tears and glanced at the untouched food, the sweet smell of it made my mouth water. I had barely registered it earlier, my mind was too tangled to pay it any attention. But I turn my face away from the growing temptation. Hunger should be the last thing I am supposed to feel as a prisoner, I needed to make an escape first. I look around the room, inspecting closely, thinking of an escape plan. –The window – I moved to it and peeped through the loose holes of the curtains to inspect the vertical openings of the wooden frame, the small spacing was just enough to fit me through. I heard voices and footsteps fastly approaching. Holding my breath, I pressed my back against the wall. Two women, chatting and giggling, strolled past. I wait till their voices fade out before lifting up the curtains and peering out. The air outside hit me, fresh and enticing. The cool breeze ruffled my hair, drying out the sweat that had formed around my face. I poke my head out first, glancing at the different directions to make sure no one else was coming. My heart raced as I stepped on the big stone I found resting by the side of the window as though it had been kept for me for this very purpose, and pushed myself forward. I squeezed my body through the space, twisting on my sides to create enough room to move not minding the rough wood scraping against my body. I dared to look down, the ground looked considerably high. My body already hanging halfway now, I hear a low, menacing snarl coming from below. The hairs on my body stood on end, my breath hitched in my throat. I slowly peered down, terrified, to find a fierce looking dog crouched below baring its canines out, snarling, waiting for me–threatening with its deep set eyes to tear me apart the moment I made it down. I shivered. How did I not hear or see it come? Why does everything here haunt me? And then, I hear steady, heavy, calculated footsteps approaching, the sound of dried twigs snapping fast and the soft rustle of leaves interrupted my thoughts. My heart drops, I try to wriggle back inside but I am stuck, frozen in my spot. I swallowed my guts and shut my eyes, accepting whatever fate the goddess has next for me.
