Chapter 4 Please Let Me Be Your Assistant

As soon as those words left Daisy's lips, the crowd froze. No one had ever dared to negotiate terms like this in front of them—let alone such humiliating ones. Chris's face darkened with dissatisfaction, but Mond's sharp glare was locked on her, leaving Chris no choice but to comply. "Demanding I kneel and apologize before you even start saving lives? What kind of nonsense is this? How do I know you're not bluffing?" Chris snapped angrily. Daisy remained unfazed. "Kneel, or don't. I'll leave right now." "You—" Chris's face flushed with rage. Before she could continue, Mond stepped closer, his tone cold. "Dr. Stephens, just do it. If she fails, I'll personally make her pay." Seeing Mond's unmistakable determination, Chris felt utterly humiliated and fumed with hatred toward Daisy. If it weren't for the fear of Leonardo's retaliation, Chris, an elite in the medical field, would never endure such disgrace. Gritting her teeth, Chris struggled against her anger. But with Mond looming, she had no choice but to reluctantly lower herself to her knees. Everyone around held their breath, watching in shock as the proud Chris kneeled. When her knees hit the floor, tears of humiliation welled in her eyes, but she fought to keep them from falling. Raising her head, Chris glared at Daisy with venomous hatred, wishing she could tear her apart. Daisy, however, remained calm, her chin slightly raised. "Now, apologize." Chris trembled. After a long pause and under the weight of countless gazes, she finally bowed her head. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said those things." Daisy nodded. "Alright, since you've apologized, I'll consider taking the case." "Consider?" Chris spat furiously. "Let me warn you, the person you're about to operate on isn't ordinary. If you fail, you'll face consequences beyond your imagination!" Chris scanned Daisy up and down, her gaze lingering on Daisy's stunning face. "If you can save her, fine. But if you can't, I'll personally destroy that face of yours and sell you overseas as a low-class p********e!" Daisy's expression remained indifferent, but a cold glint flashed in her eyes. "Then wait and see," she replied confidently. Something about Daisy's composure sent an inexplicable chill through Chris's heart. Mond frowned, his voice heavy with caution. "Our lady's condition is very complicated. You can't afford to make any mistakes. Even Dr. Brien, who's known as a miracle worker, refused to perform the surgery after assessing her condition. He said there was only a 20% chance of survival. In the end, we had to bring in top international specialists." "That's because he wasn't capable," Daisy said calmly, exuding quiet confidence. "I can do it and ensure she survives. But my fee is $10 million." Daisy could tell right away that the woman's status was anything but ordinary. For other doctors, her condition might have been too daunting to take on, but for Daisy, it was fairly routine. After all, back in the slums, Daisy had handled tougher cases with far more limited medical resources. This situation barely phased her. Still, their repeated references to powerful connections—thinly veiled threats, really—rubbed Daisy the wrong way. She figured she might as well charge a higher fee. She happened to be short on funds at the moment, especially after pulling The Brick Family out of yet another massive financial crisis not long ago. Daisy had spent an enormous sum to keep them from going under. And then there was Ellie's medical condition, which required more than 200 million dollars a year, despite the slim hope of her ever waking up. Yet, the Brick Family had just kicked out the very benefactor who saved them. Daisy wondered how sorry they'd be when they finally learned the truth… Chris was stunned. "Ten million? Are you insane? Even top heart surgeons like Dr. Evans don't charge that much. What makes you think you're worth it?" Daisy remained unbothered. "Take it or leave it." Chris's fury boiled over. "You're a fraud! Do you know who Dr. Evans is? He's my friend! Don't think you can fool me. Fine. If you really can save this patient, I'd pay you not just ten million dollars—make it fifty million. But I think you're just a fraud, and there's no way you'll pull it off!" Daisy raised an eyebrow, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Your friend? Funny, I've never heard Heinrich mention you before." "You liar! As if someone like you would know him!" Chris sneered. Daisy's expression sharpened, her presence radiating authority. "Not only do I know Heinrich, but I can have him assist me in this surgery." With that, she pulled out her phone and sent a few texts. Chris froze, then burst into laughter. "If you can make Dr. Evans, a Nobel Prize-winning genius, work as your assistant, I'll gouge out my own eyes and apologize!" Even Mond hesitated. Was he too hasty in putting their hopes on Daisy? At that moment, the elevator doors opened, and Heinrich stepped out. His sharp gaze swept across the room as he heard Chris's shrill voice echoing. His brows furrowed in annoyance. Heinrich had only just received Daisy's message and rushed over. He never expected to hear someone daring to question Daisy—the world's most enigmatic miracle doctor. Who in their right mind would do that? "Dr. Evans, you're here!" Chris exclaimed, rushing toward him with a smug expression. "That woman dared to slander you, claiming you're only good enough to be her assistant!" Ignoring Chris, Heinrich strode directly to Daisy. His demeanor shifted as he approached, and to everyone's shock, he bowed respectfully. "Teacher, are you performing the surgery yourself? May I assist you?" The room fell silent. Dead silent.
