CHAPTER 2

Tamara frowned at herself in the mirror, frustrated. She’s been combing her hair for a while now, but it just won’t behave. She’s even been known to hit her head with her brush because she’s not in the right mood. She was so annoyed that she took her favorite notebook and packed it in her bag instead of finishing her hair. Her other close friend Ella was waiting for her in a lobby, which she discovered. Ella cursed, “That ex of yours is such a jerk!” as her eyes blazed with anger. She was friends with Ella aside from Rina. Rina was her longest and closest friend, so she was deeply hurt yesterday when she caught them making miracles together with her boyfriend. Tamara stopped walking when she saw the two people who had broken her heart while they were heading to the cafeteria. They had the nerve to laugh after what they did to her. Tamara seethed with anger, but she didn’t want any trouble even though she contemplated confronting Rina. She doesn’t want to cry now because she already used up all her tears last night. No one can match the pain she felt with Jomari compared to her other ex-boyfriends. She was best friends with Rina for ten years, but she was just deceived in a hurry. She can’t understand why. “Is that him? You know what, just let it go. He’ll regret it and come after you. Rina is a flirt, and it’s not far-fetched that she’ll replace Jom with someone else,” Ella said while gently stroking Tamara’s back, who was now quietly crying as she watched the two. “Rina is so ugly! Oh. If I weren’t holding back, I would’ve shaved her head.” Ella comforted Tamara once again. She took a deep breath and headed straight to their classroom. She was out of sorts all day, and Ella noticed. As they left the classroom, Ella immediately linked arms with Tamara. “How about a bar? You need some alcohol right now,” Ella suggested, raising and lowering her eyebrows. Tamara paused and stopped in her tracks. “Sure. Besides, nothing is stopping me.” Jomari prohibited her from drinking because he was afraid someone might disrespect her. Tamara only realized now that Jomari was protecting her to take her virginity. Tamara cursed in her mind and despised her ex even more. As the night fell at eight o’clock, Tamara donned a fitted red glittering dress that showcased her curves and flat stomach. She also put on long earrings that suited her well and curled her hair. She wore red heels that matched her outfit perfectly. She smiled broadly at her reflection in the mirror, seemingly unfazed by the people who had deceived her. “I must find my happiness. I should be happy knowing that I was deceived,” she muttered to herself, but she couldn’t help but feel hurt and still wanted to cry, though she thought it would ruin her makeup. “I will find someone better. I am beautiful, so many will want to court me. You’re not alone, Jomari. Remember what you did to deceive me. Someday, you will kneel,” she firmly said to herself while seeing her furrowed brows in the mirror. Ella texted her the location of the bar they were going to. Tamara immediately headed there, sitting upright in the taxi. When she saw her cell phone, her world crumbled again as she saw a picture of her and Jomari with their lips almost touching. In her frustration, she pounded her phone screen and quickly deleted all their pictures in a folder. “You will regret deceiving me. You, Rina, will regret fooling me,” she gritted her teeth in her mind as tears slowly fell. Glancing around the crowded bar, Tamara had to compose herself. She despised going to bars or clubs where people were too loud, drank excessively, made out, and danced like wild animals that had escaped from the zoo. When she noticed a familiar face, she immediately tapped them on the shoulder. “Ella!” she called out loudly as the surroundings were too noisy, filled with the smell of smoke from vapes and cigarettes. “Hello! You’re already here. Let’s go over there to the bartender,” Ella invited her and then almost dragged her there. She’s wearing heels! “Ouch, be careful!” she complained. Ella seated her at the bar and she was the one who ordered their drinks. “I’ve been wanting to praise you earlier. Damn! You’re so hot! Jomari’s briefs will drop when he sees you," Ella said and even slapped Tamara’s thigh, causing her to wince. “And voluptuous!” she added while her eyes lingered on Tamara’s ample bosom. She just grinned. Good thing she only gave her lips to Jomari. “Here are your drinks, ladies. Enjoy!” The bartender handed them their drinks. Tamara immediately picked up her glass and took a sip of the alcohol in one go. “Hey, take it easy,” Ella said. Tamara crossed her legs and fixed her hair. Tamara caught a whiff of a delightful perfume from behind her. She turned around and noticed a man in a black jacket and black pants sitting behind her. Unconsciously, she found herself staring at his angelic face. When the man glanced at her, she quickly looked away, realizing she was gawking. She then faced Ella, who was already engaged in conversation with the man. Tamara decided to let them be and ordered another shot. “Hey,” a voice from behind her caught her attention. She turned around to face the speaker. “Yes?” Tamara replied, raising her glass. “What is your name? I have never seen you here,” the man said, resting his elbows on the bar counter as he gazed at Tamara. “It’s my first time at this bar. We usually hang out at San Foh,” she casually replied, adjusting her strap that was slipping off. “You’re gorgeous,” the man complimented, taking her by surprise. She nervously smiled, feeling a bit embarrassed. “T-Thank you,” she stammered, tucking her hair behind her ear. “Your name?” the man asked again, pouring himself a drink. “Why?” Tamara raised an eyebrow, unfolding her legs. She couldn’t help but notice the man’s gaze lingering on her fair, slightly chubby thighs. “I was just asking. My name is Zavier Dace,” he introduced himself, extending his hand. Tamara smirked, trying to suppress a laugh. “Sorry, I don’t shake hands with strangers,” she asserted. Zavier felt a bit awkward and withdrew his hand, taking a sip of his drink. “Tamara, I’ll be right back,” she excused herself, catching Ella’s attention. She nodded and kissed Ella on the cheek before leaving. “So, you’re Tamara. What a lovely name. It suits you,” the man praised, giving her a wink. Tamara rolled her eyes. “Are you single—” “Absolutely yes!” she cut him off before he could finish his question. “And I will never be taken by cheaters!” she added with a hint of bitterness. Zavier raised both eyebrows and smirked slightly. “So that’s why you’re drowning your sorrows in alcohol? Interesting,” the man remarked, finishing his drink. “May I invite you to my exclusive room and chat there?” Tamara hesitated. She didn’t know the man, so why would she go with him? What if he would hurt her? “I will order a lot of food and beverages, so if you’re interested in coming with me, room 24 is where you’ll find me. I’ll be waiting,” Zavier said before leaving Tamara in a daze, staring at the man in the distance. She swallowed hard before checking her phone, which had just buzzed.
