ADRIA’S POV:
I walked back to the bedroom quickly and began to pace around. My heart was thudding so loudly in my chest that I could swear the whole pack could hear it. I heard Leo’s footsteps fast approaching. As he walked in he had a concentrated look on his face. His expression softened when he saw how frazzled I looked.
He grabbed me and pulled me into a hug. “Hey, we will figure this out okay. I have the pack taking shifts for protection. I let them know through the pack link. It is okay, we will stop all of this madness. I promise.”
I heaved an exasperated sigh trying to fight tears. “That is easier said than done.” I paused for a moment and wiped my eyes discreetly. “Um, so...as far as the pack link goes. Will I ever be able to hear anything said through that since I am your Luna?”
He laughed a little and held on to me. “Yes, of course. Dad said that you would be able to hear it once I marked you as my mate.”
I blushed and looked down for a second. “Oh, I see.” My mind began to run circles. On top of this estranged man starting a war, my husband hasn’t even attempted to mark me as his mate. I couldn’t help but feel a little...hurt over this decision.
He noted my reaction a little too quickly. “I haven’t marked you, not because I don’t want to, but because I wanted you to settle in a bit first.” He replied almost immediately to my thoughts as he brushed my hair from my eyes, wiping away a few tears that I had missed.
I sighed a little. “I see. It’s fine. I understand. Thank you.” I smiled a little and leaned up to kiss him.
He smiled beneath my lips. “Well, in light of our current situation, it would be helpful to have you in the pack link. Would, you like me to mark you as permanently mine?” He whispered as he trailed my jawline and neck with his soft, warm lips.
I swallowed hard and nodded a little. “Well, it does sound like it would be a necessary thing right now,” I whispered letting my hands find their way to his hair.
He nodded as he kissed my neck gently. “Are you sure? If you were to ever leave me, I can not take this mark back.”
I smiled as I ran my hands through his hair softly. “I would never want to leave you. This...you are all I could want or need.”
He nodded as he sank his teeth into my neck trying to be as gentle as he could. I couldn’t help but moan. Instead of the pain, I was expecting, it felt...really good. He reacted to my moan quickly with his own and pulling me into him. As he leaned up he kissed me gently as always.
“There, my love. You and I will be together forever.” He smiled as he watched me. “Since you are new to this, would you like to go to the bathroom to see the marking?”
I laughed a little as I walked to the bathroom. “You already know me way too well.”
As I stared at the mark in the bathroom mirror, I ran my fingers over it. It was a circle with a tail that drew upward a tad and back down leaving a curled tail at the end. The mark of Leo. King of the Zodiac, as Deryn called it in the book he wrote. The same symbol that was etched on the fur of Leo’s wolf. He truly was the goddess’ chosen king. And I...I was his mate.
That is when I heard it. “Alpha, we are positioned around the perimeter. Any other orders you need us to follow?” Liekos’ voice sounded through my mind.
“No, just...keep an eye out. Who knows what he will try next.” Leo’s voice followed pursuit. “Also, I forgot to mention, your Luna is now in the pack link. Be respectful.”
Everyone in the pack began yelling welcome as one would expect. I couldn’t believe it. It sounded like all of their voices were in my mind, which began to let a lot of questions arise. Could they hear all of my thoughts as well?
Leo walked in and smiled. “The answer to that question is no. We can’t hear all of your thoughts. Only if you allow us to. Do you like the marking?”
I felt my cheeks begin to burn as they turned red with embarrassment. “Did I say that through the pack link? I love the mark thought...thank you.”
To my relief, he shook his head. “No, you’re my mate. I am just good at reading you. No need to thank me, my love. I am happy beyond comparison to finally mark you as mine.”
Every time he said I was his, butterflies flew around in my stomach constantly. I was his. He was mine. Until death do us part. Hopefully even long after that.
