LEO’S POV: I woke the next morning filled with dread. Today was the day. King Braeden insisted I allow one of his elementals to come and get me to cut down travel time. I couldn’t deny the gesture no matter how bad I wanted to. The car ride would have given me some time alone with my thoughts and to prepare. But it seemed their King was in a hurry to seal the deal. I didn’t know what exactly he had to gain by pawning his daughter onto me, but with the threat of war looming over Lycansbane a mere two days after my coronation…I didn’t have much room to ask questions. I decided to get dressed in something simple. It wasn’t like I would be wearing it too long. I pulled on a pair of black slacks and a white t-shirt. I heard a light knocking on my door as the sun begun to peer through my curtains. “Come in,” I said in a flat tone. Liekos opened the door slowly. “My Alpha. The air user from Primordial is here. She just arrived.” I looked at him taken aback. “Already? That was quick.” He nodded. “Yes. She can bend with the wind. So she travels using it’s current. Traveling that way only would take a few moments to get from point A to point B. So I guess I understand why he sent her. It just seems a bit rushed if you ask me.” I nodded. “My thoughts exactly. Are you ready to go? With any luck we will be back here in time to catch some sleep in our own bed tonight.” He nodded. “Let’s hope.” I sighed slightly. “Well, it is rude to keep her waiting. Let’s be on our way.” I said as I walked out the door and past him. “I hope you made her comfortable while you made her wait.” “Of course. I sat her in the parlor with a cup of coffee.” He smiled. We walked the rest of the way to the parlor silently, and as we approached the first thing I noticed was the color of her hair. The purest shade of white I had ever seen. She seemed no older than my age, yet…the color of her hair alone could have fooled me. She noted our presence and looked up at us with the kindest gray eyes. She smiled slightly. He rtan features complimenting her hair incredibly. “Hello. My name is Aura. I am an elemental of air and would be honored to transport you to Primordial quickly and safely, King Leo.” She smiled bowing. I returned the smile. “Oh, no need for such formality, dear. It is a pleasure to meet you. Sorry to have kept you waiting.” She grinned as she stood up. “It was no worry at all. You have a lovely home.” “Well, I am glad you were comfortable.” I smiled kindly. There was something about her that seemed as gentle as the breeze she was carried on. She smiled as she stepped forward slightly. “Forgive me for the rush, but my King has a strict time line he wants to be followed today.” I faked a smile as I spoke my next words carefully trying not to let the tension in my voice show. “Yes, of course. Shall we be on our way then?” She smiled and nodded. “Let’s go outside to where I can feel the morning breeze blowing through.” We followed her outside silently and she took a deep breath. She positioned her arms out from her sides with her palms up as if she were absorbing every bit of the sunlight and the wind that was spreading across the land. She inhaled deeply reveling in it. She turned to us and held her hands out to us quietly. There was something about her smile that, against my better judgment, made me trust her enough. We grabbed her hands without hesitation. I felt the breeze pick up around us, swirling with such delicacy. It was so peaceful…was this how she always felt? She smiled as if she could read my thoughts. I watched as flower petals ripped from their homes and swirled around us effortlessly on the breeze seeming more at home there than on their own flower. I gasped as I began to feel as light…no…lighter than air. I looked around us in absolute awe as we began to lift above the breeze. I stared beneath us as the flower petals danced beneath our feet. Before I knew it, the pack house behind us was already out of sight. Her hair flew wildly in her face as the breeze carried us but she didn’t seem to mind it in the least. It was as if she had become one with the breeze so effortlessly. Before we knew it, the palace that stood proudly in the center of Primordial came into view. It seemed so daunting from where we stood. I looked up at it mesmerized. She smiled as the breeze slowed. “King Leo, I would like to welcome you to Primordial. When you walk inside, you should be welcomed by our crowned Prince and his fiance. Please enjoy your stay.” She said as she drifted away yet again on the very breeze that brought us here. “Well, are you ready?” Liekos said speaking for the first time since in my bedroom at home. “As ready as I will never be,” I said as we walked up the stairs and opened the gigantic doors. She wasn’t wrong. Before us stood who I assumed to be the crowned Prince of Primordial. “Welcome King Leo! It is an honor to see you have granted us with your presence! I hope your journey was comfortable.” He smiled. “My name is Darcio. The heir to the throne. I am pleased to make your acquaintance. This lovely lady next to me is the future Queen and my loving fiance, as well as Adria’s lady in waiting, Demi.” The small girl smiled as she bowed to me, her hands full with different things. Makeup, a dress that was covered up, shoes still in their box, it baffled me that a girl of her size could carry all of that and make it seem as easy as drawing breath into her lungs. “It is lovely to finally meet you.” Her small voice carried as gentle as the strings of a violin. “Forgive me for not staying longer, but the lady waits for me to help her get ready. Tonight is a big night after all.” She smiled kindly. “No need to apologize dear. Please, tend to what you need to. Would you like some help from my Beta, Liekos, to carry some of those items?” I smiled watching her curiously. “Oh, no thank you. I have it under control.” She smiled as he skipped away in a hurry. “You have a lovely fiance.” I complimented as Darcio watched her walk away. There was no mistaking the love he had for her. “She is something else. I believe one would consider her to me, what a mate is to you.” He smiled kindly turning his attention to me as she got out of sight. I smiled. “You are very lucky to have found her. Many people search their whole lives for a love that strong and still die before they find it.” His smile softened a bit knowing the weight of my words. “Yes, I am truly blessed indeed.” I took a quick glance around me taking in the scenery. “Your home is truly magnificent.” “Thank you for the compliments.” He grinned a bit. “Shall we go and prepare you for the ceremony then?” He said as he turned and began to walk. We followed him quickly to ensure not to get lost. We followed him around what seemed like endless corridors until he finally stepped into a room. The room, just like the palace, was a breathtaking sight. He smiled as he pulled a tux from hanging on the mirror. He handed it to me. He silently motioned to the bathroom for me to go get changed. As I put the tux on, I failed to realize what was so special about it. King Braeden said that Darcio would need to help me get ready due to some traditions and ceremonial attire that I would need to wear. I could have brought a tux like this from home and gotten ready at my pack house. There was no need for me to get here so early to put this on. I stepped out of the bathroom quickly and to my surprise there were more people in the room then when I left. There was a small platform now raised from the floor in the center of the room. Darcio smiled. “These are some of the royal designers. The only ones who know how to do the ceremonial patterns. If you wouldn’t mind, please stand up on the platform and stay as still as possible. I have to warn you, however, this will take a few hours at least.” I nodded and stood on the platform. I understand now. They would sew the design on, but for the right placement…I would need to be wearing it. “So, what kind of design is this?” I asked curiously as I stepped onto the platform. Darcio smiled a bit. “It is hard to explain. Some jewels, some trimming, just typical traditional ceremonial stuff.” He watched me curiously as the designers surrounded me, examining me. It was as if he was examining me as well. Examining and studying my character. But why? For his sister’s sake possibly? I understand now. You never know the type of man your sister is being pawned to. There is no doubt had I been dangerous, had I meant his sister any harm, he would kill me and kill his father for even thinking about giving her to me. I couldn’t help but smile. I admired that. She must mean a lot to him. As the designers finished examining my body and how my figure fit the suit they settled in to get to work. I watched them pick up some golden thread and begin to sew around the seams leaving a golden trim outlining the suit. The particular gold may be the brightest I have ever seen. But they were far from finished with the thread. They began to sew vines and flowers all over the suit. A flower I had never seen before. The flowers were stitched together in the most beautiful silver thread. Darcio noted my curiosity. “They are our families representative flower. Spotted Deadnettles.” I looked up at him, my curiosity obviously peaked. “What do they represent?’ He smiled enjoying the curiosity hiding in my eyes and my voice. “These flowers grow mostly in shaded areas, where shadows lurk and grow their strength. However, they can also thrive in the sun. It means no matter the conditions, we will not waiver. We can withstand anything. The sunniest day, or the darkest night, we will thrive until our dying breath.” I hung to every single word that came from his mouth. “That is such a beautiful meaning. I love what it represents.” He smiled. “Good.” He studied my expression before speaking again. His next words didn’t surprise me as much as one would think they would. “Is my sister in good hands with you?” Everyone froze at his words. But I didn’t let it take me off guard. “Of course. No harm will come to her as long as I draw breath. I will ensure she is happy and has everything her heart would desire. She will be respected and cared for.” I answered the question, honesty dripping from every word I spoke. She may not be my mate. But that wasn’t her fault. There was no need to take that frustration out on her. He smiled noting my honesty. “That was what I was hoping to hear. But keep in mind. Should she be harmed by your hand, or even your words, that will be your last breath I assure you.” I smirked listening to his threat…no…his promise. “I would truly have it no other way.” He laughed and just like that, it was as if the tension had evaporated as the designers went back to work sewing black diamonds throughout my suit. The threaded the diamonds spacing them out thoroughly along the thread. Every few inches apart until they finished. As they stepped away I looked into the mirror in front of me. I would be lying if I said my jaw didn’t drop open. It was absolutely incredible how they transformed this suit into something I would have never imagined in just a few short hours. Liekos smirked taking in the scenery and spoke for the first time since we arrived. “Looking good, Alpha.” He smiled as he watched me. “Mind if I assist with your hair? It looks like a hot mess right now.” “That won’t be necessary. The designers are far from being done. They will thread the same diamonds through his hair. That will take the remaining of the time we have before the ceremony.” Darcio responded before I could even open my mouth. Liekos nodded silently. He seemed a bit tense, yet he always was in unfamiliar surroundings. Always silently preparing for whatever may happen. The perfect beta is always prepared. Always vigilant. I couldn’t think of a more perfect way to describe Liekos. I stepped off of the platform as Darcio motioned for me to sit in a chair that resembled one you would see in a barber shop. I sat down without hesitation as my anxiety only worsened the closer the actual ceremony got. I had no idea what I was walking into. What has Dad gotten me into? I watched as the designers threaded the diamonds through my hair as delicately as they could without hurting me. I was grateful for their gentleness. As they finally finished the sun was beginning to set. Was it time already? Darcio smiled slightly. I hadn’t even noticed he had changed into his royal robes as well. “I must be going. I am tasked with the honor of walking Adria down the aisle.” He said as he left quickly. His presence was quickly replaced by Demi, now dressed in a short black dress with gold trim along the bottom. The black really brightened out her pale features. She smiled. “I will lead you to the throne room where the King and Queen await to meet you.” She said kindly. The designers got up and left quickly. I smiled. “Of course. Goddess knows we would get lost.” I laughed a little as I stood. I stretched my aching muscles slowly. I walked out the door following her quickly as Liekos stayed close to me. The only sound through the halls was the clicking of her heels against the marble floors. Surprisingly for the wedding day of a Princess. She noted my curiosity quickly. She smiled. “It is a small ceremony. Myself, Darcio, the King and Queen, you and your Beta. That’s why the halls are practically deserted. During the ceremony, the King has ordered complete silence through th palace.” She cheerfully explained. I nodded in understanding, but all that explanation did was cause Liekos to tense up even further. I watched his movements from the corner of my eye wondering if there was a specific reason for it, or if he was just being cautious. I couldn’t help but to feel his immense tension. It was so thick you could cut it with a knife. It was becoming suffocating. I couldn’t wait to just get this over with so I could go home to familiar soil. As we walked into the throne room, as Demi implied, the only people there were the King and Queen. “King Braeden, Queen Dyana. It is lovely to finally meet in person.” I say bowing out of respect. “You have a lovely home.” Queen Dyana was the first to speak. “Thank you for your kind words, Leo. You look well. The crown looks good on you.” I smiled. “Thank you. I only hope I am half the King that Dad was.” King Braeden smiled. “With enough passion and assurance in all you do, you will no doubt be a strong king.” I couldn’t help but smile. “Thank you, King Braeden.” He smirked. “Don’t think me. I just speak the truth. Now, it is time for the ceremony.” That was the quickest meet and greet ever. Again, it seemed so rushed. I couldn’t help but think maybe he had another motive. I stepped up to the alter in front of him as the Queen stepped to the side as did Liekos. I listened behind me as my body tensed and the doors opened. I couldn’t resist the urge to turn around. As I did…my heart leaped at what I saw. The most beautiful woman stepped in with her arm wrapped around Darcio’s. Could this be…Adria? My heart began to race rapidly. My wolf began to pace impatiently. My wolf never felt so uneasy before. Something was off. I watched the young woman approaching slowly. Her Auburn hair bounced upon her shoulders as her veil went down her back. Her deep green eyes pulled me further into my trance. I could stare into her eyes forever. They just made her pale features pop even more then they already did. It seemed to become harder to breath and it was as if we were the only two in the room. I wanted nothing more then to run to her. I was becoming so very confused as to why I was suddenly feeling so at ease. I looked back at Liekos trying to hide the confusion in my eyes. But staring into the eyes of everyone already surrounding me, they already knew what was happening. I turned back to face the beautiful woman that was finally stepping up to the alter. “You seem like a pretty lucky man to me,” Darcio whispered as he walked past. My mind zoned in on our conversation upon our arrival. This was it. No…she couldn’t be. Was this even possible? My heart thudded in my chest so loudly it was deafening. I heard my wolf’s voice echo. Mate.
