In The Beginning

Years ago, the moon goddess watched as her chosen children had begun to face annihilation at the hands of hunters. She would weep in sorrow as she watched how so many had lost their lives for simply being who they were born to be. One day, as she watched hunters break into the home of a young man who seemed to devote his very existence to her and destroy his family, she realized enough was enough. If she couldn’t save her children, then who would?     She appeared in front of the boy as the hunters cornered him. They stepped back suddenly as she stood firm in front of him. “You will leave this child alone. You will take the rest of your kind and you will leave this land.” As the hunters hesitated her patience grew thin. With a wave of her hand, she blasted them out of the home with such a strong gust of wind.     The hunters, a bit frightened and injured, rushed off and did just exactly as she said. Their human weapons could not harm her. So they knew they stood no chance. Soon, word of her orders had reached far and wide across the land, hunters of all ages soon abandoned the land. Wolves came from all over to seek asylum in the land the moon goddess had so daringly stepped down to protect.     Years after saving the young man and protecting this land for her chosen ones, she began to grow weary as keeping this form for too long was wearing her down. She was not suited to last this long on the physical plane. She knew that she would need a successor.     The young man she saved all those years ago kept a steady place in her mind and by her side helping her greet and welcome wolves that would come seeking shelter. He played such a huge role in making this land what it needed to be to keep his kind safe. He didn’t have a mate yet...but he was still so young. He had plenty of time to worry about that. She smiled at the thought of him ruling this land and his family that would inherit it. She knew that with him, all wolf-kind would be safe for generations to come.      She bestowed her crown upon him. She smiled as she stood behind him. “Everyone. Welcome your King and your protector. Deryn. King of Lycansbane.”
