As the evening wore on, Anna found herself stealing glances at Kane, she wondered if he felt everything just as intensely as she did . His smile was magnetic and contagious and she had to remind herself to focus on the conversation at hand, they might ask her something and she would become lost.
Kane eventually turned to Joy, his expression more serious. “I’m sorry I couldn’t be here sooner, Joy. The recent attacks and the wounded warriors have demanded my attention. I hope you understand.” He explained, saying the exact same thing Joy had said to defend him.
Joy nodded understandingly, her earlier disappointment seemingly melting away. “Of course, Kane. I know your duties as an alpha come first. It’s just that… well, the twins would love to meet their godfather...”
