CHAPTER 5 : FIRE IN THE SHADOWS

242 Words
The night air was thick with mist as the twins approached the De Santis estate. Tonight’s mission was their boldest yet: infiltrate the mansion and retrieve critical documents hidden deep within the vault. Elara moved like a shadow, Lyra close behind. Every step, every flicker of the guards’ flashlights, every sound of their own breathing was calculated. Then, from the corner of her eye, she saw him—Luca, leaning casually against a doorway, dark eyes scanning, calculating. A jolt ran through her chest. She hated the way her pulse raced. “You’re bold,” he said softly, stepping into her path. “Survival requires boldness,” she replied, forcing her voice to steady. Meanwhile, Matteo stormed through the hallway, shouting at guards, unpredictable as ever. Lyra acted quickly, creating a diversion that drew attention away from Elara. Her sister slipped into the vault, fingers shaking as she bypassed security measures. Documents in hand, they raced across the estate grounds, narrowly avoiding detection. Back in the shadows outside, Lyra whispered, “Too close. He’s testing you.” Elara swallowed, chest tight. Hate and fascination tangled in her heart. She hated the pull Luca had, hated herself for noticing it. Yet, a part of her couldn’t deny the thrill. They disappeared into the misty night, successful but shaken. The intel was theirs, but one truth was unavoidable: the De Santis brothers were aware of them now, and the dangerous game had only begun.
