CHAPTER 8 : FRACTURED LOYALTIES

328 Words
Back in the safety of their apartment, the twins spread the stolen files across the table, each document a revelation of the De Santis empire’s corruption. Money laundering, black-market dealings, secret international contacts—every piece of information was a weapon waiting to be wielded. Elara’s hands trembled slightly as she sifted through the folders. “This… this is everything. With this, we can strike strategically, bring them down piece by piece.” Lyra frowned, her dark eyes scanning the documents with sharp precision. “Caution, Elara. Matteo is unpredictable. He won’t let this slide. And Luca… he’s clever. He’s aware of us now. He knows something is happening.” A soft rustle outside froze Elara in place. Her pulse spiked. A figure appeared in the shadows across the street. Luca. Leaning casually against the wall, he observed their apartment with unnerving precision, his dark eyes scanning for clues, calculating their next move. “He’s testing us,” Lyra muttered, tension in her voice. “We can’t underestimate him.” Elara swallowed hard. Hate and fascination collided violently in her chest. Luca’s calm presence made her question everything she had known. Could she hate someone so precise, so calculated, so… magnetic? Could she resist the pull he had over her, or was it already too late? Lyra snapped her fingers to regain focus. “We have a war to fight, Elara. Emotions will get us killed.” Elara nodded, forcing herself to concentrate on the files. Yet, every instinct in her body reminded her: Luca De Santis was no longer just a target. He was a force she didn’t understand, and one she couldn’t ignore. Her mind and heart were at war—revenge versus desire—and she couldn’t tell which would win. As night deepened, the twins prepared for the next strike. The De Santis brothers were aware of their presence now, and every move would be watched. Every step could mean survival—or death.
