“Fatesun! Move those corpses out of the way so I can give you some of this cave water! Lucky for you the water is cooler than usual.”
When I heard those words from father, I immediately tried crawling to the other side of the room, but it just hurt so much to move.
“Fatesun! Hurry up! I don’t have all day to sit here waiting for your slow ass! Ah forget it, move outta the way.”
He didn’t understand why I was so slow, but I knew I had to move out of the way as fast as I could, then I turned around to look at the door. I heard a big sigh from father, then the door went flying to the other side of the room, stuck in the wall.
“Why are you so slow? I didn’t even break too many of your bones, was it because of all your cuts? Oh well, kicking that door wasn’t hard but man was it a hassle lifting up my leg to do something other than walking. I’ll leave your water right here, now go get that door and put it back the way it was.”
I went over to try to get the door out of the wall, but it was stuck. I couldn’t get it out and I could hear father mumbling to himself. I could not hear what he was saying but it did not sound good.
“Not only are you slow, but you're so weak that you can’t even get a damn door out of the wall? Pull harder, get that door out of the wall. Don’t make me go over and fix the door myself.”
I tried and tried, but the door would not budge at all. I was scared of what he would do if I couldn’t get the door out so I kept trying and trying. The door did not move at all, and I heard father walking towards me with heavy footsteps; I started tensing up.
“What did I say? I said to get the door out of the wall, didn’t I? So why haven't you done so yet? Actually, it doesn’t matter why. You’re not doing what I told you to do, isn’t that right?”
He grabbed my head with his hand and lifted me up off the ground, slowly crushing my skull.
“Next time I tell you to do something, you better do it.”
He then threw me across the room into the wall. He walked towards me and kept kicking me in the stomach.
“DO, WHAT, I, SAY! STOP BEING SO USELESS!”
Father backed away and started walking towards the exit of the room, but he stopped and started facing towards me with a frustrated face.
“No matter how many times I beat you, no matter how many times I tell you to do something, you are always so useless. Even when you were younger, all you did was cry and made a mess of this house. Your mother tried to get me to stop beating you and yelling at you, that annoyed me so much. Which is why I killed her, but you, I can’t kill you, not yet.”
Father paused for a little bit, changing his expression from frustrated to a more calm state.
“I’ll be back in a year, I want to relax. I won’t have to deal with you, and I can just sit back and wait for the stage to be set. In a few days a man named Zikami will arrive and he’ll provide you with what you need to live. Just get that door fixed before he arrives.”
Father walked out of the house and I just sat on the floor in my room, it reeked of the smell of dead bodies, cracks all over the floor and the walls, it was barely holding together. The only thought in my head was that I was glad father would be away.
