Chapter 19 KAYLA Friday morning The last twenty-four-plus hours are a blur. Back for the weekend just as New York turns rainy, sitting at my desk at Stanton PR, I wonder how the hell I got here. Friday morning in the office is busy, shockingly so, and amidst the mini-chaos happening amongst the cubicles, I’m still trying to figure out a way to tell Deacon the truth. I almost wish Grandmama June hadn’t told it to me. But then again who else was she supposed to confide in? I stand from my oak desk, heading to grab another cup of black coffee when my cell phone pings for the first time this morning. I glance at it to find a text from Deacon.
