The letter arrived at Lucas's office faster than he expected.
The official hospital stamp was still fresh on the document when his assistant placed it on his desk.
Lucas picked it up immediately, His eyes scanned every line carefully.
The document clearly stated that Maya Bennett required close supervision during recovery, and that any interference with her medication could seriously endanger her health.
More importantly, it granted temporary authority for her care to be transferred if her current environment was unsafe.
Lucas leaned back slowly in his chair.
The moment he finished reading, his decision was made.
He picked up his phone and texted Alicia.
Pack Maya and Layrus's bags They're moving in with me.
Alicia replied most instantly. What?
Lucas typed again, The house isn't safe anymore. He attached the picture of the medication list from the hospital and the photo Alicia had sent earlier. The drug you found wasn't prescribed.
Alicia read the message twice.
Her heart dropped.
She quickly looked toward Maya, who was sitting quietly on the couch playing with Layrus.
Maya looked peaceful.
Completely unaware of the storm about to arrive.
Alicia stood up.
"Hey Maya," she said gently.
"Yes?"
"Maybe we should pack a few things for you and Layrus... just in case."
Maya frowned slightly.
"Why?"
Alicia forced a smile.
"Just trust me for now."
Meanwhile, Lucas was already on his way.
His black car cut through traffic like a blade.
His mind replayed everything he had discovered.
The illegal medication.
The nightmares Maya had been experiencing.
Damein's constant presence around her.
Lucas tightened his grip on the steering wheel.
He had trusted Damein.
Believed he would protect Maya.
Instead, he had been poisoning her.
Lucas pressed the accelerator harder.
He arrived at Maya's house in record time.
His car screeched into the driveway.
Inside the house, Alicia had already packed two small suitcases.
Layrus was in his stroller, playing with a small toy car.
Maya stood nearby looking confused.
"What is going on?" she asked.
Before Alicia could answer-
The front door opened violently.
Lucas walked in quickly.
"Maya," he said.
She looked surprised.
"Lucas? Why are you here?"
Instead of answering, Lucas turned to Alicia.
"Take the bags to the car."
Alicia didn't hesitate.
She grabbed the suitcases and moved toward the door.
Maya's confusion turned into irritation.
"Wait. What is happening?"
Lucas walked toward Layrus and gently lifted the baby into his arms.
Layrus giggled happily.
"Lucas," Maya said firmly.
He didn't answer.
Instead, he carried Layrus outside and placed him safely in the back seat of his car.
By the time he returned inside, Maya's patience had run out.
"Lucas, explain yourself!"
Before he could respond
Another car pulled into the driveway.
Damein had just arrived from work.
As he parked, he immediately noticed something strange.
Suitcases.
Lucas's car.
And Maya was standing outside looking upset.
Damein stepped out quickly.
"What's happening here?" he asked.
Maya spoke first.
"I don't know what's wrong with him," she said, pointing at Lucas.
"He drove here like a madman, asked Alicia to pack my things, and just took Layrus to his car!"
Damein's eyes darkened.
He walked forward and instinctively pulled Maya behind him.
"Where are you taking my wife?" he asked coldly.
Lucas didn't bother answering immediately.
Instead, he pulled a document from his jacket and threw it directly at Damein.
The paper hit his chest and fell slightly before he caught it.
"Read it," Lucas said.
Damein frowned as he opened the letter.
His eyes moved across the lines quickly.
Then his face slowly drained of colour.
Lucas spoke before he could say anything.
"That medication wasn't in her prescription."
Damein said nothing.
"You're here killing your so-called wife," Lucas continued.
Maya looked shocked
Lucas stepped closer.
"That house isn't safe for her anymore."
Maya shook her head.
"Lucas, this is ridiculous."
But Lucas's voice became firmer.
"That's an official order."
He pointed at the letter.
"Maya is safer with me."
Before Damein could react, Lucas stepped around him.
He grabbed Maya's arm firmly and lifted her onto his shoulders.
Maya shouted. "Pull me down "
But he didn't stop.
He carried her directly toward the car.
Maya struggled the entire time.
"This is insane!"
Lucas ignored her protests and placed her in the passenger seat.
Then he closed the door firmly.
He walked back toward Damein one last time.
"You can get your lawyers," Lucas said coldly.
"I don't f*****g care."
Damein's fists clenched.
"But stay away from Maya."
Those words finally pushed Damein over the edge.
He grabbed Lucas by the front of his shirt.
"You think you can just take my wife?" he growled.
Lucas looked down at his hand.
Then without warning
He punched Damien hard in the face. The impact sent him stumbling backwards.
He fell to the ground.
The punch opened a cut on his lip, blood slowly forming.
Lucas looked down at him coldly.
"That's for trying to stop her from remembering her memories."
Then he turned around and walked back to his car.
Within seconds the engine roared to life.
The car sped out of the driveway and disappeared down the road.
Silence returned to the house.
Damein remained on the ground for several seconds.
His hands were shaking.
His lip bled slightly as he slowly sat up.
Everything is escalating to a single moment.
Maya was gone.
Layrus was gone.
And Lucas had taken them both.
Panic began to rise inside him.
He quickly pulled out his phone.
His fingers trembled as he dialled Sophie's number.
She answered after a few rings.
"What is it?" she asked impatiently.
"He took her," Damein said desperately.
"Who?"
"Lucas."
His voice cracked.
"I don't know how he found out, but he took Maya and Layrus."
Silence.
"They're not with me anymore."
He ran a hand through his hair.
"Please help me."
"I can't do this without my family."
On the other end of the line, Sophie's expression darkened.
"Why are there so many fools around me?" she snapped.
Damein flinched.
"This is something you could have handled without escalating the situation."?
Her voice became colder.
"Now Lucas is involved."
She sighed angrily.
"Which means things just became complicated."
Damein spoke quietly.
"What do we do?"
Sophie was silent for a moment.
Then she said one sentence.
"I'm going to clean up your mess."
The call ended.
Sophie stared at her phone for a moment.
Her anger exploded.
She threw the device against the floor with force.
The screen shattered instantly.
But Sophie didn't care.
Her eyes burned with fury.
Lucas had crossed a line.
And now
