Maya walked into Alicia's apartment, The afternoon light streamed through the large windows, glinting off the handcrafted pottery scattered around, giving the room a calm, serene glow a stark contrast to the storm raging in her mind.
"Hey, Maya!" Alicia greeted warmly, stepping away from a freshly painted vase on her workbench. "Come in, come in! And this little man is growing so fast! Every time I see him, it's like he's learning something new."
Maya smiled faintly, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "Thanks, Alicia. He's... well, he's been quite the handful lately." She gently positioned Layrus so he could look around without tipping the stroller over, then turned to Alicia with a serious expression. "I brought something for you to see. It's... important."
Alicia tilted her head, curiosity piqued. "Oh? What's that?"
Maya handed her the folder she had risked so much to acquire. The edges were slightly crumpled from the night she had spent navigating hospital corridors and sneaking into Dr Anna's office. Alicia's eyes widened as she accepted it.
"Everything," Maya said quietly. "Sophie's injections, her manipulations... every plan she's been hatching behind everyone's back. You need to see this to understand how dangerous she really is."
Alicia carefully opened the folder, flipping through the pages filled with clinical notes, receipts, and a timeline Maya had compiled. Her eyes widened with each document. "Oh... my... Maya, this is... she's... she's been plotting all along. Full knowledge, every detail. This isn't just jealousy or anger-this is calculated, deliberate."
Maya exhaled, her hands gripping the edge of the folder. "I knew she was dangerous, but seeing it laid out like this... It's worse than I imagined. She doesn't care who she hurts Lucas, me, anyone. All she wants is control, to manipulate the Thoreau family, to intimidate me, and to claim what she thinks is hers."
Alicia looked up, meeting Maya's eyes. "Then we need to strategise carefully. You can't react emotionally; she'll use that against you. This file is powerful. You have the leverage now, and we need to use it wisely."
Maya's gaze drifted to Layrus, who was quietly playing with a small ceramic toy Alicia had given him. Her chest tightened with protectiveness. "I can't let her touch him," she whispered. "I would risk everything to keep him safe. She'll regret ever thinking she could threaten my family."
Alicia placed a reassuring hand on Maya's arm. "And she will. You've got the proof now. She can't hide it, not from Lucas, not from the authorities if it comes to that. We just have to be smart about how we handle it."
Maya nodded, her mind racing. She had spent months surviving, manoeuvring through Sophie's schemes, protecting Layrus, and keeping her composure. But now, armed with this evidence, she finally felt a spark of empowerment.
"I'm going to call Lucas tonight," she said, her voice steady but firm. "He deserves to know everything-the truth about Sophie's manipulations, her injections, the lies, the schemes. He needs to see her for who she really is."
Alicia nodded approvingly. "Good. And pick a neutral place. Somewhere private enough for him to process, but public enough that Sophie can't try anything crazy."
Maya's thoughts flickered briefly to Sophie's audacity-the way she had tried to manipulate every situation, using lies and deceit to her advantage. "I was thinking of a bar," Maya said. "Neutral, safe, and public enough that she can't stage another stunt. We can lay everything out, calmly but clearly."
Alicia leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms thoughtfully. "Sounds perfect. You need to make sure Lucas understands the full scope-what she's done, what she's capable of. He needs to be prepared for anything she tries next."
Maya's mind raced as she recounted the details she had pieced together: the hormone injections, the carefully staged hospital visits, Sophie's texts, her manipulations of Lucas, and the entire plan to destabilise Maya and claim control over Layrus. Each page in the folder represented hours of Sophie's planning, and for the first time, Maya realised just how far Sophie would go.
"She's dangerous," Maya murmured, almost to herself. "But now she's exposed. She doesn't know I have this, and Lucas doesn't either-not yet." She straightened her shoulders. "That changes everything."
Alicia's voice was steady, encouraging. "Exactly. You're not just reacting anymore. You're controlling the narrative. And with Lucas on your side, there's no way she can pull this off without consequences."
Maya let out a small laugh, half nervous, half relieved. "I just... I don't want her to hurt anyone else. Layrus, Lucas, me... I've fought too hard already. I won't let her win."
Alicia reached over, squeezing Maya's hand. "You won't. Not now, not ever. And you're not alone in this."
Maya looked at Alicia, gratitude shining in her eyes. "Thank you. I really mean that. I couldn't do this without you."
Alicia smiled, her warm eyes reassuring. "We've got this. You've got the evidence, you've got strategy, and you've got me. Sophie's not getting away with anything anymore."
Maya took a deep breath, centring herself. "I'm going to call Lucas tonight and set up the meeting. He needs to know the truth, all of it. And I need to see how he reacts. If he understands, we can plan our next steps carefully. And Sophie... she won't see it coming."
Alicia nodded. "Do it. And remember, don't reveal everything at once. Keep some surprises. That's how we make sure she has no escape plan."
Maya glanced down at Layrus, who had crawled slightly out of his stroller, reaching for a ceramic figure. She scooped him up, holding him close. "This is why I can't fail," she murmured. "Everything I do, is for him. I won't let her take that from us."
Alicia watched the scene quietly, a soft smile on her face. "You're a strong mother, Maya. And soon, Sophie will realise that strength isn't something you can manipulate."
Maya nodded, feeling the weight of determination settle over her. "Tonight, I call Lucas. We meet. We lay everything out. And after that... Sophie will finally face the consequences she's been avoiding all this time."
