Sophie sat comfortably in her living room, the soft glow of the chandelier reflecting against the crystal wine glass in her hand.
She swirled the deep red liquid slowly, a satisfied smile resting on her lips.
For the first time in days, she felt a sense of calm.
Maya is disappearing into the fog., Everything had gone exactly the way she planned Or so she believed Just as she lifted the glass to her lips, the sound of the door opening startled her.
A man stepped inside.
Sophie's expression darkened immediately.
"What are you doing here?" she snapped sharply.
She stood up quickly, lowering her voice.
"Someone might see you. I told you I would send the money."
The man stepped further into the room.
It was the gunman she had hired.
"Yes, you did," he said calmly. "But I came to inform you of something since you weren't picking up my calls."
Sophie rolled her eyes dramatically.
"Obviously," she said with a dismissive gesture. "Why do you think I wouldn't?"
The man's expression remained serious.
"The woman survived."
For a moment, Sophie didn't move Then suddenly The wine glass slipped from her hand.
CRASH.
It shattered against the marble floor. "What?" she whispered.
Her eyes widened in disbelief. "How?" she demanded angrily. "When? And why did nobody inform me?"
Her breathing grew heavier as rage burned through her chest.
"Maya Bennett... you are really a witch," Sophie hissed through clenched teeth.
She began pacing the room furiously. "Now you have to silence her forever."
The gunman shook his head slightly. "There will be no need."
Sophie stopped. "What do you mean?"
"The nurse informed me she woke up with trauma from the accident," he explained. "It caused her to forget everything that had happened."
Sophie blinked. "What?" "She has amnesia." Silence filled the room for a few seconds. Then slowly A smile spread across Sophie's face Relief washed over her instantly.
"You could have said that sooner," she laughed lightly. "Good news comes first."
She walked to the table and grabbed her phone.
Moments later, she sent the payment. "There," she said calmly. "I've transferred the money. You can leave."
The gunman nodded and walked out without another word Once the door closed, Sophie exhaled deeply.
Her anger had completely vanished.
Instead, excitement replaced it.
She walked slowly toward the wall where several framed photographs hung.
Her fingers stopped on one particular picture.
Lucas.
Sophie stared at his face for a long moment.
Her eyes glowed with determination.
"Well, Maya," she whispered softly.
"It looks like we're going to be long-time friends."
Meanwhile, across the city, inside the hospital, Maya rested quietly in her bed while Layrus slept peacefully beside her.
Lucas and Damein sat in the room as the doctor walked in to check on her.
"Good evening," the doctor said with a warm smile.
Maya looked up.
"How are you feeling today?"
"Better," Maya replied softly.
The doctor nodded.
"That's good to hear."
He looked around the room before continuing.
"I actually came to inform everyone that Maya will be discharged tomorrow."
Maya blinked in surprise.
"So soon?"
"Yes," the doctor said. "Your physical injuries are healing well, and you should recover in a calm environment."
Lucas sighed in relief.
"That's good news."
The doctor then added something important.
"However, there is something you should all remember about her amnesia."
Everyone listened carefully.
"The brain is still recovering from the trauma," the doctor explained. "But in most cases like this, memory returns naturally."
Lucas leaned forward slightly.
"Like how long?" he asked.
The doctor chuckled lightly.
"Months?" He asked, shaking his head.
"No, no. Not months."
The doctor said ..
"Then how long?" Damein asked curiously
The doctor smiled calmly.
"Usually within a few weeks."
Lucas immediately felt a wave of relief wash over him.
"That's great," he said quietly.
But across the room
Damein's expression changed.
His jaw tightened slightly.
Because the doctor's words meant something very different to him.
Weeks.
Only weeks before Maya remembered everything.
He had believed this situation was an opportunity.
A chance for Maya to grow closer to him again without Lucas complicating things.
A chance to rebuild their relationship.
But now the time was running out.
If her memories returned quickly...
Everything could change.
Lucas noticed Damein's silence.
"You heard the doctor," Lucas said calmly. "She'll remember soon."
Damein forced a small smile.
"Yes," he said.
But deep inside, his thoughts were racing.
He needed to make sure that when Maya's memories returned...
Her heart would already belong to him.
And not to Lucas.
Across the room, Maya gently stroked Layrus's tiny hand as he slept peacefully.
She looked between the two men.
Something about the tension between them felt strange.
Even though she couldn't remember anything...
She could feel it.
Something important had happened between them.
Something that her missing memories were hiding.
And somehow
She knew the truth would eventually return.
Just as the doctor left the room, there was a gentle knock on the door.
Before anyone could respond, the door slowly opened.
Alicia stepped inside.
“Maya!” she called softly.
The moment her eyes landed on Maya sitting up in bed, her face lit up with relief.
“Oh my God,” she said, rushing forward. “You’re awake!”
Maya looked at the woman approaching her with mild confusion.
Lucas immediately stepped forward.
“Alicia,” he said.
Alicia stopped beside the bed and carefully hugged Maya.
“You scared the hell out of us,” she said, her voice trembling
slightly. “Do you know how worried I was?”
Maya blinked slowly.
“I’m sorry… do I know you?” she asked gently.
The words hit Alicia like a sudden slap.
“What?” she whispered.
Lucas sighed.
“She lost her memory,” he explained quietly. “The doctor said it’s temporary.”
Alicia stared at Maya for a few seconds, clearly shocked.
“You mean… You don’t remember anything?”
Maya shook her head slowly.
“I only remember parts of my life… but nothing recent.”
Alicia stepped back slightly, processing the information.
Her eyes briefly flickered toward Lucas and then Damein.
“That’s… unbelievable,” she muttered.
Layrus stirred slightly in Maya’s arms.
The baby yawned softly before snuggling closer against her chest.
Alicia noticed and smiled.
“Well,” she said softly, “at least someone still remembers you.”
Maya looked down at Layrus and smiled faintly.
“Yes… he seems to.”
Alicia pulled a chair closer and sat beside the bed.
“Don’t worry,” she said reassuringly. “Your memories will come back.”
Then she leaned slightly closer and lowered her voice.
“And when they do… you’re going to have a lot of catching up to do.”
Lucas gave her a knowing look.
Because both of them understood something Maya didn’t yet.
There were still many truths waiting to return.
And when Maya remembered everything…
Nothing would ever be the same again.
