Maya's hand was steady as she kept the gun pointed at Sophie, the cold metal pressing against her fingers. The abandoned cliff was silent except for the distant crash of the waves below. She had shown Sophie the video, and for a moment, it seemed the threat had worked.
But Sophie just laughed. A slow, malicious laugh that made Maya's blood run cold.
"You can't be this foolish," Sophie sneered, shaking her head. "Did you really think a little video would stop me?"
Maya tightened her grip, her heart pounding. "You've pushed me too far, Sophie. Stay back."
Sophie's eyes glinted, and Maya realised too late that Sophie had brought a gun. "I thought you had sense," Sophie continued, stepping closer, her weapon now visible. "But no. Not only are Lucas and Damien on their way, but apparently you left your phone behind. They saw the message. You've ruined my perfect plan."
Maya's stomach dropped. She hadn't thought of that. Her phone. The one she had left in her car.
"You left your phone?" Sophie taunted. "Now I'm angry that you didn't even bring the file. My plan... It's damaged." She took another step forward, closing the distance, her laughter rising.
Maya's finger tightened on the trigger, the wind whipping her hair in her face. "Stay back, Sophie. Don't come any closer."
Sophie raised her hands, mockingly innocent. "Oh, I've done everything I can to survive. And you... I am going to kill a friend once more to save myself because nobody listens!"
Maya felt a surge of fury. "I'm not letting you hurt my family. Not my son. Not me."
Sophie tilted her head, a cold smirk spreading across her face. "Mission first," she whispered.
Sophie raised her gun in the air.
Suddenly, a sharp crack broke the silence, then a second shot erupted. Maya's eyes widened in shock as Sophie staggered backwards, her gun falling from her hand. She glanced at Sophie and then at her own top, which was soaked in blood, causing Maya to fall toward the edge.
"No!" Sophie screamed, in a fake pretence lunging forward. Sophie teetered for a heartbeat, her laughter echoing like a twisted mantra.
From behind, shouts cut through the morning air.
"Mayaaa!"
Sophie turned her head. Lucas and Damein were running toward her, their faces etched with panic.
"Hold on!" Lucas shouted, sprinting faster, eyes fixed on the cliff's edge.
Damein's voice boomed over the wind. "What have you done?"
Sophie's hands trembled, still holding the gun loosely. She tried to steady her breathing, but the adrenaline and fear made it impossible.
"Lucas... she... Maya..." Sophie stammered, pointing toward the cliffside.
Both men froze, then their faces turned ashen.
"You pushed Maya off the cliff" Damien barked, his tone
Sophie stumbled a step backwards, her heart still racing, trying to explain. "She... she fell! I didn't... someone shot her .my gun wasn't loaded. And moreover, Maya came with one as well
You can check the CCTV camera it is over there.
Damein scanned the cliff frantically, his eyes searching for any sign of May. "Where is she?" he demanded. "Tell me where she is!"
Sophie shook her head, her voice barely audible. "I... I don't know. One moment she was there, she... she fell."
Lucas's jaw clenched. "Damein call someone, we need to go down the cliff
Sophie said shakily. "Yes. I think... I think she's gone. But I didn't see... I didn't see the end."
The mist swirled around the rocks below. Waves crashed violently, sending a cold spray up the cliffside. The morning sunlight began to peek through the fog, but it did little to calm the tension in the air.
Damein's face was pale, his anger mixing with disbelief. "That... that woman..." he muttered under his breath. "I can't believe she is gone "my Maya
Lucas stepped closer to Sophie, his hands on her shoulders, tightening her. "You know what you did you're a f*****g liar " he said firmly. "If I find out you have a hand in this I won't spare you ."
Sophie's hands shook violently. "I... I just..." Her voice cracked. "I didn't want it to end like this. I only called her here to settle the dispute, but she pointed a gun at me first.
Lucas looked at her, with eyes reddish and pointed you know what you did.
Damein, still scanning the cliffside, muttered under his breath. "We need to make sure... Maya is okay. The cliff is not that deep. She might just break an ankle or hand
Sophie clenched her fists, feeling a mix of anger, rage, and exhaustion. "It's over," she said softly, though the tremor in her voice betrayed her uncertainty. "I hope it's over."
Lucas and Damein exchanged a glance. Both understood that while Maya might be in danger. It was Sophie's doing Her schemes, her manipulations, her obsession with destroying Maya's life...
"I can't... I can't believe she actually..." Sophie whispered, shaking her head.
Damein put a hand on her shoulder, firm and grounding. "You did it. You were smart. You were prepared. That's why you are still here." To confirm if your plans will work.
Lucas nodded, you let her fall "...we need to get off this cliff.
Sophie glanced once more toward the abyss, her heart still racing. Then she nodded, allowing both men to guide her back toward the car, leaving the misty cliffside behind.
