Chapter 14

1010 Words
It was already night time when Angela drove in. Together we carried the semi-consciousness, duck taped, handcuffed prisoners, and loaded them into the van. Angela came by her police mobile. She would follow my van from behind for extra security. But God had something else planned for me and them that night. Never did I realize, that night would become so dramatically chaotic for me. Bo Chang had created a secret base for holding hardcore criminals and confessing their crimes. This base was known to only a few closest ones who are working with him. It was the red room of torture. All types of physical and mental pain were inflicted for purpose of criminal investigations was conducted there. The criminals were given a “third-degree love of police” until they spill out everything from their guts. This base was situated at an empty, worn-down factory at Incheon. I was sure when these pieces of assholes would be taken there, they would utter who was their leader and why he killed Alfred. We were on our way driving on the empty road with a canopy of trees on both sides when suddenly we saw a bunch of men encroaching the road from a distance. There were ten of them, armed with guns and knives. Angela called me from behind on my cell. I ordered her not to stop the bike at any cost. Let them attack first. We became completely alert. The nearer we got to those people, the more sweaty I became. I had to carry the prisoners alive. And how would I and Angela, cross this hurdle in the middle of the forest, at night with nothing but a gun each? They had encroached the way by placing a few cars as means of the blockade. In front of them, they stood ready waiting for a pull in the trigger. Angela overtook me, like a speeding meteor, and jumped over the wall of cars. The bike lurched forward and she landed in front of them. ‘Nice move!’, I always admired her for her bravery. She was the youngest of all the police detectives, but the bravest of all. I increased the speed and geared forward. The people in front were confused. They were already trapped between Angela on her bike in front and me with my van in the back. They don’t know in which direction to start firing. As a result, a few were aiming at Angela and a few at me. This was what I wanted. The firing began. Angela hid behind her mobile and continued to shoot. Her perfect aim already terminated three of them. I injured two on their legs. I did my best to avoid getting hurt. Those guys before me were slashing and firing aimlessly without a plan. My main priority was to reach Base with the prisoners alive. A bullet shattered the rear glass of the van and another broke a window. A shard of flying glass cut me on my cheek. A bullet grazed past me. The fight became intense. Bullets were flying along with sand and gravel and painful cries of the people who were hit filled the air. I came down from the car. Despite being fallen, they were still trying their best to kill me.  The closest to me tried to stab me in the ankle with a combat knife, but I prevented it by kicking him in his face. He growled at me and tried his best to recover, but before I aimed another blow, an aimless bullet stuck him in his throat and that made his end.  Another one tried to punch me with his bare hands, but I swung round and grasped him by the throat. Holding him in the mid-air as he failed at me, fighting to keep his life. It was cut short as a small burst of rifle fire hit him in the back. Bullets intended for me. Using the dead body as a shield I bore down a few more with my meat shield. I was praying for Angela’s safety. She was completely exposed with nowhere to hide except her bike which she was using as a cover and a shield. The mini battle lasted for thirty minutes. Nearly all of them were dead and the remaining ones hobbled and fled into the darkness. There was no point in chasing them. Angela limped and came to, my side. I rummaged and went to inspect the dead bodies. Then I dialed for the ambulance and police to clear the mess. A lot of dead bodies and pools of blood laid scattered on the road. "Are you okay?", I asked her. She nodded. Hair was plastered on her sweaty face and she had bruises on her knuckles. And she was limping. "Are you hurt?" -"No. It's just a sprain. Relax", she smiled. We went towards the back of the van where our prisoners were tied. One was awake. Lenus was trying desperately to break free. Although his mouth was taped, his eyes were full of fear and horror. The man beside him was not moving. "Michael. Look", Angela pointed towards the sternum. Blood was soaking from his shirt where the bullet had pierced. He was dead. "Now we only have to carry one", I remarked. -"Yeah. One is enough for us, isn’t it?" -"Yep. One will be enough for us to know everything that they did and the man behind the murder". We placed the dead body beside the other corpses on the road. Lenus was horrified and his face told that he might have peed a little in fear. "Lenus, you have only thirty minutes to reach Base. After that, you decide if you are going to help us in our interrogation smoothly or in some other way." I scoffed and started the engine towards the base. "Think Baby think. What you gonna do?", laughed Angela, ditching her damaged mobike and climbing beside me. We rode towards Incheon in silence too tired and injured to think of anything. ,
