Chapter 11

" We took the Camera from the police and returned", Jasmine continued. -" What happened next?" -" The camera was password protected. Although the case was damaged by seawater and sunlight, the camera looked still intact. We tried your name, Alfred’s name, parents’ name, places, birthday months but the password won't budge. Then Alfred typed in the date of your marriage and the camera clicked open. There was a microchip inside the camera. We logged it into Alfred’s notebook and switched it on. Photos and videos of your travels, marriage, selfies, and groupies all flooded in." -" The camera was Amiya’s life. You know, she always carried it everywhere."   For the first time, I saw Jasmine smile. A pained smile. -" I have never seen Amiya face to face. But those smiling, laughing, and playful pictures proved how beautiful she was." -" Yes,"  I replied. " She was beautiful. You should have seen her when she was alive. Always jumping like a fox terrier". -" Amiya’s storage was sorted by date. We clicked on the date when she visited Bali. On the day she arrived, on her way to the hotel, she visited many places, met many people and everything was captured by her. But there was a small video which was the reason she was murdered." -" What video?" -" It was a video clicked unaware by her. Probably Amiya didn’t even know that her camera was on. It happened without her notice. Or else she would have told either you or Alfred about it." -" Did you see the video?" -"Yes." -" Tell me." -" It was about a murder." -" What?" I was astounded. -" Yes, she unknowingly captured video of a murder that was taking place. The video showed a man was being stabbed by another man. The victim looked beaten and was covered in blood. His face couldn’t be seen. But the man who was stabbing was well dressed in sunglasses." I realized what would have happened. Amiya had a bad habit of leaving the video cam on and doing work or talking to people. She had no idea that her camera was capturing something which would bring her end. Probably those people might have noticed it and they killed her in cold blood. Why Amiya why? Why had you never listened to me? I felt so much frustrated. " Michael, the police was also involved." -" How can you say that?" - "After watching the video, Alfred called back at Bali to inquire about that murder that took place that day. They completely denied it. They said that no one was killed on that small island except Amiya. They even faked a surprise." - " But they might be really telling the truth. Or else why would they send you the camera.? It was the camera after all that caused the murder". -" Exactly, I too thought about it. But I was proved wrong and so would be you". -" How?" -" Remember the man who was held responsible for her death?" -" Yes. Park Ji Won. He confessed. He is behind bars serving a life sentence in Kuala Lumpur." -"  Nope. He has broken out a long time ago." -" Broken out? How? How can someone escape from such a strict prison?" -" Only if someone opens the door from inside." I was literally fumbling for words. Policemen are supposed to protect their nation. They are supposed to sacrifice their lives so that citizens may live in peace. But when a policeman helps a criminal, he is worse than Satan himself. I was so much angry that I almost broke the table with my punch. " Alfred knew, the only one who could provide us with some insight was Park Ji Won. Through him, we could reach the real culprit. But the criminals were one step ahead of us. No clues. No footages. No witness. Nothing. On top of that, the security system was in their pockets". -" Did Alfred find Park Ji Won?" -"Yes. But it wasn’t easy. Before he left for Bali, with a colleague, we went to the Marriage Registry Office and got married. He wanted me to be safe in his absence. Only the wife and legal family of an Interpol officer could avail themselves of the security and safety services. There were no parties, no ceremonies. Only him and me and his parents. He thought you would come, but you didn’t." -" I am sorry. I was too much traumatized by her death". -" Now that I have lost my love, I know what you have gone through. No need for an apology." I nodded. We both were on a raft without oars sailing in mid-ocean with sharks swimming all around.
