Chapter 4

UNCOVERED PAIN

Scarlet curled up on the bed, her mind reeling. Dinner had come and gone and she had used her journey as an excuse when Fiona came.

She just wanted to be alone. Or maybe she just wanted to escape Alex.

Who wouldn't be angry if their best friend had almost gotten married and they weren't invited.

It's like she meant nothing to him.

She shook away the thought.

Alejandro cared about her, maybe he wanted to surprise her?

Even that seems like a stupid excuse.

She sigh for the 26th time and grabbed her phone. She frown, 2am? How?

It's morning! She had been in her head since the day before.

Her stomach grumbled and she decided to go fill it up.

Right after a cool bath. Afterall she was still in the dress from the day before.

Slowly, she dragged her self to the bathroom.

Alejandro POV

I stare at my phone of the table.

*He won't say a word boss* A man voice sounded.

I smile. "Cool. If you are listening Matteson, you're making my day" I said but receive no response

"Kill the little girl" I said and a loud scream followed.

I laughed. " See Matteson? She's gone and your son will follow. I think your wife understands. Right woman?"

*¡Maldito! ¡Ella es inocente! ¿Por qué no me matas a mí también? (You basta*d! She's innocent How about you kill me too!!!)* The woman voice screams through the phone and I laughed.

"Well, forgive me mujer(woman) I am usually gentle with the ladies but your husband is daring me so I can't help but feel insulted. This will hurt but... Take a eye from the boy. " I said and the woman screams started once again and just then Matteson cracked.

*Pls let him go I will tell you everything!!!* I smiled. It worked.

"Leave the boy but if his father plays any trick or leave anything out, kill the boy." I told my men at the other side.

There was a long silence and I began to get annoyed.

Then the man began to talk. Most of what he said all confirmed my suspicion and I even got another lead on my rival. After coming to Spain, my father put me through rigorous training and st a point I thought he just wanted to dead. Now I am grateful. It has help me build the empire. It was the largest but when I came in, I made it much more and he was proud before he passed two year ago.

He was poisoned and the culprit killed herself. It was one of the maids. I killed them all because I knew my mother was next so I needed to catch the mastermind and now I know who it is, I just needed to confirm my suspicion.

I found the maid family after discovering that they were all professional spies and hired killers.

As cute those children are, it's too bad they will have to join the family business. So I will help them out... eventually.

Hearing enough, I ordered.

"Dispose them all." I hung up. I look at the kitchen entrance when I heard footsteps, I grabbed a small knife but I returned it.

I knew that footstep.

Then she walked in and froze.

I grabbed a chair from the dinning and sat. Watching as she started to retrace her steps.

"Nice of you to fly to Spain to check up on me. " I called. She halted.

"So you are going to avoid me forever then? I thought you believed in communication... Or you've changed? " I said again and she turned, her eyes fierce.

I watched her move from the dark side of the room to the open kitchen, I clench my jaw.

This woman.

My woman.

Does she know what effect she has on me.

God she was beautiful! Her hair had gotten longer. She had long hair, the colour of a Raven but blue eyes like her blonde mother.

I watch her approach, her hips swinging with each step.

She was unconsciously setting me ablaze.

She grab a chair and sat in front of me. Crossing her long legs.

My hand itch to claim them.

"Who am I to you? " She suddenly asked snatching me from my unholy thought.

"What do you think?" I asked back. Repulsed by the word Best friend.

"I think you hate me" She said and I almost laughed. Of only she could read my mind.

"I admit I should have told you but you might say no, considering how busy you can be sometimes. You do say you have lots to do right? " I knew she won't buy it.

I watch her lips tightened and I got my answer. She is mad.

"So you decided to make a very important decision for me... I am sure Aunt Fi would have invited me but you...

" Look am sorry okay? It ended and am glad you didn't ha e to witness that or I might be too embarrassed to...

"You are always there for me Alex so why am I not allowed to do the same? Besides why did it end? Did you break it off"

I scoffed and she frowned.

"She broke it off!! "

It was not a question and suddenly she moved closer.

"Flame!! Flame! " I tried to pry her away and she paused.

"I am so sorry it must have been hard!! You should have told me" She said suddenly in tears.

I watched in astonishment.

"You're tearing up Scarlet. " I said and she nodded.

And then it dawned on me.

"Another one, " I asked with a scrowl.

"I understand your pain Alex! My boyfriend too proposed to another. It's so painful and he won't... He he he said... " She broke down again.

I watched her, feeling angry at the guy and at the same time broken because...

"When? When did he...

I felt like my throat will blow up.

" Oh Alex it was terrible! I had to take the first flight. I just needed to leave and...and.."

I watched her speechless and then I decided.

"You came for comfort... From me. "

She looked up at me with teary eyes.

"And that's bad" She asked.

I guess I didn't hid my disgust.

"Do you know how I feel whenever you come to me for comfort. If you were with me you...

" What are you say Alex? Am I a burden? Is that what you're saying?"

I smile. I might as well, get it all out then.

"Yes. A burden impossible to drop. You rejected me thrice and expect me to watch you and another guy. And when it ends you come to me for comfort. You think it's funny right? To think I am cursed to love you till eternity while you see me as just a friend. Then you blame me for not inviting you to my wedding or for not doing a video call with you. Hearing your voice was one torture but seeing your face was not one I want to go through"

I watch her beautiful face go from utter shock to that fierce anger she always had whenever she feels cornered but I was determined. She needs to know. After all, she will be staying here for a while even if I have to use a little force.
