CHAPTER 5

LILLIAN POV

My breath seized immediately at the sight of him and suddenly I found myself in my subconscious, alone in the hall with Drake.

I tried standing up to meet him, but my limbs were stuck, paralyzed with fear…my spirit willing, but my body, weak.

I tried calling out, but the words were stuck in my throat and I just watched helplessly as he walked past my table with two of his friends, without a care in the world for me…

“Hey…Lily are you ok?” I heard Josh call from a distance, echoing in my subconscious and I quickly shook my head, trying to clear my thoughts only for me to see him and Lucy staring at me wide eyed with shock.

“Y—yeah I am ok” I manage to croak, but Lucy being very smart, refused to be fooled for she saw right through me and she smirked with a knowing glint in her eyes.

“Ouuuuu someone has a crush on the Alpha prince” she whispered.

I felt my cheeks turned red immediately and tried covering my face in embarrassment, for it’s different if my mum jeers at me, but a stranger…?

“No I don’t” I retorted and prayed to the moon Goddess not to let my lie show, but maybe because I am not a full wolf yet or….

“s**t! You do!” Josh spluttered, clearly shocked with this new revelation.

“No…no I don’t—” I replied sternly as I tried to make my face unreadable, but they weren’t listening…

“Don’t worry” Lucy said absentmindedly, “you are not the only one in the race for the alpha prince.”

“Oh you like him too?” I asked baffledly, but she snorted and waved her hands all over her head and replied;

“I and ninety nine percent of the girls here like him sweetheart, like I said, you are not the only one.”

“Oh Ofcourse I expected that” I giggled and glanced at where he was sitting with two of his friends and out of curiosity, I asked;

“Who are the other boys with Drake?”

“Oh you are really a newbie” she snickered and added, “they are known as the trio.”

Josh scoffed and rolled his eyes, obviously irritated, while I sat up immediately, deeply interested in what Lucy has to say and she continued briskly like she is a walking encyclopedia for the trio…

“The trio is a group made up of three friends—the handsome tall dark kid with jet black hair, that he roughens every few second is the Alpha son, Drake. Then the other tall slim dark haired one, who is looking very reserved and quiet, is the beta son, Andre. Also, the tall blonde haired one sitting opposite Drake is Lucas, his family owns the biggest healing clinic in the pack and his father is the Alpha’s personal healer….”

“They are known as the untouchables and they are very unapproachable….infact, no one is allowed in this school to approach the trio… so what ever fantasy you have in your little mind concerning any member of the trio, I suggest you dissolve it.”

It’s been two months since I arrived Majestic High….two months of staring from the distance, of asking myself if I had made the right choice in coming here…

Well I have…I happily consoled myself, for now I have a friend, I have Josh.

But I can’t still shake off this feeling that I’m getting farther and farther away from the main reason of my coming—Drake.

I sighed sadly as I rummaged though my locker, searching for my chemistry assignment, then I caught his scent, oud, from a mile away and as if it’s been waiting for this moment…my heart increased its tempo, loudly…

“You are about to leave us again, I can see it in your eyes” Josh sharp voice woke me from my thoughts as I tried to drag in shreds of his scent lingering in the hall way, but I couldn’t be more grateful for his intrusion, for any minute from now, I would have been lost.

Then I decided to speak out, I needed to be out of this torture, I needed to be free for I’m getting tired of all this.

“Josh…” I said breathlessly, “I think I need your help.”

His eyes widened with concern as he dragged me into an empty classroom down the corridor and when he was sure we were alone, he turned to me and asked nervously;

“What is Lily? Are you ok?….you have been walking around soullessly for the past one month, I knew something was bothering you, but I didn’t want to probe…please tell me Lily, is it something that should involve the authorities?”

“Wh—” I stared in shock and whispered apprehensively, “no…no please No authorities, it’s not that serious Bud.”

Involving the authorities in the childish crush I have for Drake seem funny, so funny that I had to double back and clutch my tummy in laughter and to be honest, it looks like the first time I have laughed this hard in months…

All thanks to Josh…because of Drake. Ok I need help!

“I have been having this wild crush on Drake since I was a kid” I began awkwardly, then my voice became stronger as I saw Josh propped himself on a seat, with his hands folded on his chest, staring intently at me like I was the most important thing in the world to him.

“At first, it just started as a thought, then with time…over the years it grew stronger and stronger, occupying my whole reasoning and as I do see him almost everyday, it became harder for me to focus on anything else…”

“Since you were little?” Josh asked cautiously with his brows raised, “…and you see him almost every day?”

“Yeah that’s right” I replied in a small voice, knowing very well I will have to finally tell him my identity.

“Look, I know that you are under the Luna, but I know you are no princess or are you adopted?” He asked croakily, “Lily, don’t you still tru—”

“I’m her maid’s daughter” I replied defiantly, with my chin raised up incase of any leering or snicker, but surprisingly, his emotion didn’t change…infact he began to make calculations in the air and whispering frantically to himself.

“Oh now I understand everything…” he mumbled softly, “ok, has Drake ever noticed you?”

“No..never” I replied while shaking my head frantically.

“Hmm…to my observation, Drake doesn’t have a girlfriend, only Lucas does, but I think there might be a leeway for you here, besides it won’t hurt to try” he babbled on, while pacing from side to side with his hands folded backwards.

“Really?” I asked hopefully, but then I remembered a very important information and my face dropped instantly, “But we are not in the same level Joshie, he is the Alpha son, while I am a maid’s daughter… what will make him like me than any other she wolf in this school? I am in the lowest class Josh.”

“Don’t you worry” he replied excitedly, “ you will never know, until you try…besides, I feel if anyone deserves to be Drake girlfriend, it’s you.”

“So you are saying I should shoot my shot?” I asked hesitantly as I stared at him wide eyed, looking for any sign on his face that will suggest him playing me, but I found none, instead all I saw was a young wolf who greatly believed in love.

Maybe he was right, maybe this is the only way I will be free, after all these years…..but I have doubts, fear, reservations, for it will only take a miracle for Drake to look my way and if there is a slight percentage of that happening, no matter how little…I will take it.

Besides, I will never know, until I try.
