LILLIAN POV
Ten years ago….
“Lily!”
“Yes mama..” I replied from my room as I rummaged my wardrobe in search of what to wear, “coming…..”
“There is a letter addressed to you” she shouted from the sitting room….more like ‘said’ for it wasn’t far from my thingy bedroom…then I paused in my activity and wondered, confused on who it might be, for I’m just a bespectacled geeky fifteen year old she wolf with no friends.
Then sure enough, I heard a huge gasp from the sitting room and I froze immediately, with my thoughts in the worst scenario and hurried to where my mum is only to find her sitting on the sofa with her face ashen with shock as her eyes dart around the paper in her hands.
“W—what is it mum?” I asked gingerly as I approached her to also see what she is reading, but I couldn’t understand a thing for it had an aura of seriousness and it was stamped all over like an official document.
“It’s your letter of admission sweetie” she replied enthusiastically, with her eyes huge with glee as she bobbed on her seat, unable to contain her joy.
“My letter of admission?” I asked as I stared at her cluelessly, “but mama, I didn’t apply for any admission and I’m already attending high school, remember?”
“Shhhhh…don’t say that” she whispered and drew me closer to her, with her hand roped lovingly around my arm, she said;
“To my surprise…Luna Sharon suddenly asked of you last week, when I was preparing her bath and Of course I told her you were fine, then she asked about your education and if you liked your current institution…I told her you are trying your best to adjust to their system, for you are more brilliant than them, then she told me not to worry, that she will put in word for you to be transferred to Majestic High.”
“I initially thought she just wanted to be nice and thanked her, but as I didn’t hear from her for days, I assumed she had forgotten, until now—”
I stared at her in shock, unable to think straight after hearing the news…the news of me going to the most expensive high school in the pack with all the rich pups of the government officials and it sounded so good to be true, then I remembered…
“But mama, I don’t think it will be a good idea for me to mix with the kids of majestic high” I said cautiously, “we are not in the same status, so therefore I will be looked down at….maybe we should just decline—”
“You will do no such thing!” My mum flared angrily and turned to face me on the sofa, “do you know how many will die for this opportunity? All for what? And so what if you are not in the same status hmmmm? This opportunity will literally change your life my child.”
I looked down at my fingers clamped together on my laps, seriously unconvinced and uninterested about this new arrangement, but my mum, as always, knew how to get to me, because—
“He attends majestic high also.”
“Who?” I asked as I looked up at her beaming face in confusion.
“Drake Ofcourse…the Alpha prince.”
************************************
I stayed rooted on the spot as my mothers reply washed all over me, making my senses foggy as my heart immediately increased his tempo…
“Drake?” I asked anxiously and she nodded with a knowing glint in her eyes.
Drake is the Alpha son and future Alpha of Luxembourg pack who doesn’t know I existed, but has been my crush since my younger days…
As my mum is his mother’s maid, I always saw that as a way for me to enter the palace to get a sneak peak of his form whenever he is not looking and turned red like a tomato anytime his eyes skimmed past the maids in his mothers chambers and landed momentarily on me…without any feeling whatsoever, but unlike him, I always dance with glee inwardly at the sight of Drake Michigan.
My mum saw my crush as funny and had always pulled that thread anytime she needed me to assist her with her chore or an errand…
“You should carry these pile of clothes to the palace…” she would say.
“Ah mama…I’m tired” I would murmur grudgingly, “can I do it tomorrow?”
“No sweetie, they are needed over there today and besides, I saw Drake just now entering the palace with his friends.”
And that works every-time, for I suddenly will see myself helping with the chores or excitedly running an errand with the promise of me seeing Drake…even if it’s from a distance and it has been going on like that for years…
Now I don’t have to be sneaking around him anymore, I will in fact be receiving lectures in the same class with him and that gave me enough strength and will power to face the unknown for I will do anything to be beside Drake.
I looked at my mum with hopeful eyes and returned her smile, then I said breathlessly;
“I will go mama, I will attend Majestic high.”
“That’s my girl!” She clapped happily and whistled as she danced around the sitting room and her joy was so infectious that I had to stand up from the sofa and dance with her.
“When am I resuming mama?” I asked enthusiastically as we swirled happily around the room like young pups.
“Tomorrow Ofcourse” she replied joyously as she pulled me in for a hug, “you will resume tomorrow.”
“But ma—” I protested, for I knew I wasn’t ready. Firstly, I don’t have a uniform, secondly I don’t have books and thirdly and most importantly of them all…
We have no money.
But she shushed me and hugged me tighter and said softly, with her voice heavy with emotions;
“Don’t worry my child…whatever your scholarship can’t cover, I will get it for you, even if I have to scrub the floors till my back breaks….you must have a better life.”
