ADRIAN I pulled into the parking lot of the hospital and killed the engine. Henderson had already texted me the details, room number, the floor wing and even the doctor’s name, so I didn’t bother with stopping at the main lobby or the receptionist. I didn't waste time, I just headed straight for the elevator. When the doors opened on the private floor, the smell of antiseptic hit me. I walked down the corridor. When I got there, I pushed open the door without knocking. Dad was sitting up on the bed with IV line taped to the back of his hand. Mom was seated in the chair beside him, clutching a paper coffee cup she probably hadn’t sipped from. Henderson stood near the window like he’d been waiting for me with his hands clasped behind his back. He’d been the senior staff at my parents
