She guided us further into the house. When we reached the main living area that opened onto the dining space, everyone stood up.
My grandmother’s face lit up the moment she saw me. She crossed the room quickly and pulled me into a gentle hug.
"I’m so glad you could make it, sweetheart," she whispered against my hair. "It means the world to me."
I gave her a small smile when we pulled apart.
She turned to Adrian next, shaking his hand warmly. "And thank you for coming as well. It’s really lovely to have you here."
My father stood up more slowly. He looked at me for a moment.
"Welcome, Amelia," he said, voice careful. "Thank you for coming."
Then he turned to Adrian. "Mr. Langford... in my house. I must say, I am honored." He stretched out his hand. "I’m Nathan Montgomery."
