CHAPTER FOUR: BRIELLE THORN

1341 Words
Swimming in Cyphus Lake had always been therapeutic for Brielle. It was her go-to place to de-stress. It held beautiful memories as this was her family's favorite hangout spot for family time. This all changed when Brielle saw that big black wolf spying on her. Her brown orbs stared into his blue ones and Brielle felt time pause for that moment. Blue eyes. Brielle groaned out loud and wrestled with the sheets of her bed in embarrassment. She couldn't get any sleep as she was up all night thinking of the incident at Cyphus Lake. He must've seen me naked, were the thoughts running through her mind all night. Unlike other wolves, since Brielle couldn't turn, no one apart from her mother and Daya had seen her naked. Not even her God-forsaken husband of seven years. A knock distracted Brielle from her thoughts and she quickly composed herself. "Come in." Brielle's servant Henrietta who has been with her since she was a kid entered, "The Alpha has called for your presence in the dining room," she said. Brielle's eyes naturally looked at her clock and saw it was three hours past breakfast time. She had been so in her thoughts that she had forgotten about breakfast and even about Damien and his mate saga. She dismissed Henrietta and reluctantly went to freshen up to face her reality. In the dining room,Damien sat at the head of the table and Kaitlyn sat at the chair to his right, it was the sit meant for the Luna. Brielle walked in and saw Kaitlyn sitting on her chair and her heart sank. The realization that Kaitlyn was slowly replacing her set in and she found it harder to breathe. "What are you doing over there?" Damien called out to Brielle who stood watching them in a daze. After being called out, Brielle quietly walked over and sat on the chair to Damien's left. On the dining table with them was Daya and Matt, Damien's Beta. "Uh...I.." Kaitlyn said intending to stand up, "I didn't know you'd be joining us for breakfast I just wanted to sit next to my mate," She said close to tears and Damien held her hand on the table right in front of Brielle. "It's just a seat. I'm sure Brielle doesn't mind, right Brielle?" Damien asked knowing Brielle wouldn't refuse him. "Yes, there is no need to cry over a seat," Daya said, nonchalantly spreading jam on her toast. Earlier she had seen Kaitlyn smirk and she knew Kaitlyn did whatever she did to purposefully hurt Brielle. Kaitlyn was embarrassed as she was caught off guard by Daya's response. "It's not what you think," She murmured looking down and biting pitifully on her lips. "Daya..." Damien tried to caution Daya but he swallowed his words when he saw Brielle shake her head next to him. "The annual unity ball is tomorrow, how are the arrangements coming along?" Matt asked Brielle to break the ice. Lunas were in charge of Balls and soirees. "I've sent out formal invites already. Proper arrangements have already been put in place. Everything is under control." Brielle relayed with a smile. She was always excited to host balls as it was the only thing she was directly involved in when dealing with pack affairs. "Can I help with decorations? Or catering...I'm good at those things!" Kaitlyn chipped in trying to be part of the conversation. "We have people for that, you don't have to stress yourself," Brielle said warmly to Kaitlyn's dismay. Kaitlyn wanted the opposite of the kindness Brielle was showing her. She wanted to evoke the dark side of Brielle so that the people who once loved her would turn against her and she could comfortably replace her as Luna. "You've welcomed me into your pack and I just want to help in the little way I can, don't worry I won't mess things up for you." "If you so badly want to help you can scrub the carpets and the rugs. You see, we're short of maids to do such menial jobs," Daya seriously announced to the surprise of everyone. She couldn't help the little scoff that escaped her lips when she saw the ashen look on Kaitlyn's face. "Daya!" It was Brielle who called out this time. She was secretly amused at how Daya blasted Kaitlyn but she tried to stop Daya out of curtsey. Daya stood up from her chair, "Alpha, Luna, I'll be leaving for training," She turned to Kaitlyn and said, "If your offer to help is still open kindly meet the head of servants to appoint you some scrubbing tools." Kaitlyn's face was flushed red at this point and she excused herself from the dining right after Daya left. "We need to talk," Damien said to Brielle and left as well with Brielle following right behind him. Inside the study, Damien stood staring out the window, and not a second later, Brielle came in. "About last night..." He started, "It won't happen again." Brielle bit her bottom lips as she stared at the man she loved before her. Her eyes looked glossy as tears threatened to erupt. Her mind had been clouded with the incident at Cyphus Lake that she had forgotten about this ordeal and now she was faced with again, her emotions all came crashing into her at once. "It obviously won't happen again because once it does, I'll divorce you, take my pack back from you and get out of your life forever." Brielle said to the shock of Damien. She has had enough of Damien playing her for a fool and it was time to step up. Damien was continually baffled by Brielle's recent courage. For a moment he was scared that she would act on her threat if ever he were to make a mistake. And knowing himself, keeping his hands away from Kaitlyn's sexy body was a temptation he couldn't resist. He had to act fast, even if it meant getting rid of Brielle. "There's no need for you to lay such threats, I'll stay away from Kaitlyn if that's what you wish for" Damien tried to trap Brielle with his honey coated promises but Brielle has had a enough believing them. "I'll forgive you on one condition. Reject Kaitlyn at the upcoming unity ball." * WHITE MOUNTAIN KINGDOM "If I hadn't come the time I did, we wouldn't have caught him," Nathaniel sneered at Simon. They both sat in the couch area in the office, discussing the events of what happened the previous night. Nathaniel was currently bitter because Simon wasn't giving him the credit and praise he deserved for helping him catch the suspected leader of Red Rogues. The night before, Nathaniel and a few others had caught up with Simon but the suspect was nowhere on the scene. When he saw that Simon was completely out of it, he used his Lycan sight and sharp hearing to track which way the suspect had gone. In no time, he apprehended him. Simon on the other hand left the suspect to Nathaniel and ran towards Cyphus Lake. On getting there, he saw no one and was about to leave when he saw a heart-shaped locket laid on a rock. Simon stared deeply at the locket. There was a picture of Brielle and her mother and father in it but the person Simon focused on wasn't Brielle but the other lady in the picture -Brielle's mother. Her face was oddly familiar and he thought long and hard about where he had seen her, before he finally remembered. She was present at the m******e of his parents ten years ago. "I need you to do me a favor Nat," Simon suddenly said, his sight still focused on the locket he held in his hand. "What unrewarded favor am I to carry out for you again my dear king," Nathaniel said sarcastically. He was still bitter. "I need you to look into someone," Simon said seriously completely ignoring Nathaniel's jest. "Who?" "Brielle Thorn."
