Lucian’s POV
I woke before the sun had fully risen, the events of the previous night still burning in my mind. The hot pool. Her rejection. The way her voice had trembled when she spoke the words that I couldn't get myself to say. I had accepted it, yet the emptiness in my chest felt heavier than any chain I had ever worn.
I dressed quickly and headed toward the training grounds. I told myself it was to check on the warriors’ progress, nothing more. But deep down I knew the truth. I wanted to see if she had left at first light as I had told her she could.
The field was already alive with activity when I arrived. I stayed in the shadows behind the main arch, hidden from view. The warriors warmed up, their movements sharp and disciplined. Dana stood in the center, barking orders as usual.
