Chapter 2

Chloe froze for a moment. "That's it? There's no other skill involved? Isn't it just sleeping with him?" I nodded. "That's it." Chloe looked as if she had just heard the funniest joke in the world. She turned to her companions behind her and let out a mocking laugh. "I thought it was some kind of high-level executive assistant position." "Isn't she just a high-end tool for satisfying his desires? And she gets a ten-million-dollar annual salary for that? A man like Mr. Grant is a rare catch. Being able to sleep with him is a blessing. The Grant Group's money really is easy to earn." Someone beside her added bitterly, "That diamond bracelet on her wrist was something Mr. Grant casually gave her last month. It came from an auction and is worth several hundred thousand dollars." Chloe stared at my wrist. Under the fluorescent lights, the custom-made bracelet reflected a dazzling glow. It was not an ordinary bracelet. It was a miniature vital-sign monitor disguised as jewelry. Every time Adrian pinned me beneath him in bed with his two organs and tried to tear me apart completely, the bracelet would monitor my heartbeat and internal bleeding levels in real time, preventing me from actually dying from his brutal violence. Chloe looked at the bracelet, her breathing becoming heavier. "Vivian, if you're making such a high salary, why do you always look so unhappy?" She looked me up and down and sneered. "Anyone who didn't know better would think Mr. Grant abused you. You should know how to be grateful. Being able to serve Mr. Grant is something you should appreciate, not act like a victim every day. Don't tell me... you really think you're Mrs. Grant?" I looked up at her. Chloe felt a sting from my gaze and instead straightened her back. "Am I wrong? If you're a substitute, if you're a tool, then you should have the awareness of a tool. When I take over your job in two days, I definitely won't be like you, acting like a resentful wife and ruining Mr. Grant's mood all the time." Listening to those comments, Chloe became even more pleased with herself. I looked at her and suddenly found it ridiculous. In everyone else's eyes, being able to stay by Adrian's side every day and enjoy a life of ultimate luxury was an incredible blessing. But only I knew the truth. Being by Adrian's side was a slaughterhouse without walls. Whenever he entered his shedding period or mating heat, the only thing left in the dark basement was heavy breathing. He would shed his disguise, his cold snake tail wrapping tightly around me, every inch of pressure accompanied by the faint trembling of my bones. The most terrifying thing was his two organs... They were monstrous things that did not belong to a human body, two weapons covered in barbs and backward-facing scales, ravaging inside me one after another. Cold and heat exploded through my body at the same time. The backward-facing scales scraped against the most sensitive inner flesh, bringing unbearable pain mixed with a strange numbness. He would grip my waist and force my entire body into a humiliating curve, forcing both terrifying organs inside me and stretching me until I felt almost transparent. Every impact felt as if it would tear me apart completely, yet the extreme pain still forced my body into uncontrollable reactions. The next day, he would return to being the elegant and dignified CEO in his perfectly tailored suit. Seeing the bruises, bloodstains, and injuries covering my body after his violence, he would slightly furrow his brows and hand me an expensive bracelet along with a ten-million-dollar check. He would say, "Wear it. Don't make me think you're useless." That ten-million-dollar annual salary was the "medical insurance" I earned in exchange for a body covered in wounds and a mind pushed close to collapse. And Chloe thought I had stolen something that belonged to her. I looked at the termination notice and almost laughed out loud. Then I calmly looked at Chloe and said softly, "Since you want to do this so badly, I wish you a pleasant time at work." Chloe was speechless for a moment, then immediately raised her voice. "What kind of attitude is that? Are you looking down on me?" I ignored her and walked straight out of the company building. The autumn wind swept past the street corner, carrying a hint of chill. I tightened my grip on my bag, my heart racing. If she could really take over smoothly, that would be perfect. Finally, someone was voluntarily walking into that cold-blooded creature's nest.
