Early the next morning, Adrian really did fly to Bayport.
At ten o'clock, Patricia Hayes, Eleanor's personal assistant, arrived at the villa.
"Vivian, that woman named Chloe went to Mrs. Eleanor Grant first thing this morning to prove how determined she was. She even wrote a guarantee, saying that as long as she only received one-fifth of your salary, she would be available whenever needed and would never complain or show any attitude."
Patricia sighed. "Mrs. Grant didn't agree at first, but that woman insisted. Vivian, Mrs. Grant and I both know how badly you've been tortured over the years. While Mr. Grant is in Bayport, leave as soon as possible. Mrs. Grant has prepared some startup funds for you overseas. The farther away you go, the better."
My nose stung, and I bowed deeply.
"Thank you. And please thank Mrs. Grant for me too."
Eleanor did care about me. She just couldn't control her own son, who was as insane and cold-blooded as a monster.
Now that someone had volunteered to become the target, this was my only chance to escape.
I quickly returned to my room and began packing my luggage.
But halfway through, Chloe barged into my private living quarters with two security guards, walking in arrogantly.
She held a designer handbag in her arms and looked around the beautifully decorated suite, greed flashing in her eyes.
"Oh, you're moving pretty fast, Vivian." Chloe sneered. "I thought you were going to keep clinging to this place and refuse to leave."
I ignored her and continued stuffing my clothes into my suitcase.
Chloe walked over, pressed down on the lid of my suitcase, and looked down at me condescendingly.
"Since you're already being kicked out, shouldn't you leave behind some things that don't belong to you?"
Her eyes were fixed on the bracelet around my wrist.
"This was purchased by the Grant Group. As an employee who's about to leave, do you really think it's appropriate for you to take it with you?"
She didn't even wait for my answer before reaching out to snatch it.
Her sharp nails scraped across my wrist, leaving a red mark. She roughly pulled the bracelet off my hand and eagerly put it on her own wrist.
"As expected, good things really do belong on young, beautiful skin." She admired it proudly.
"Leave the designer perfumes and handbags inside too." Chloe ordered the security guards arrogantly. "Throw all these shabby old clothes of hers outside. Don't let them take up my space."
The security guards immediately started moving.
They threw the old belongings and books I had accumulated over the years out of the villa entrance like garbage.
In the autumn wind, my clothes were scattered all over the ground.
Chloe stood on the steps like a victorious general and sneered.
"Alright. Take your severance pay and get lost."
I crouched down and silently picked up my clothes one by one.
There was not a trace of humiliation in my heart.
Instead, it was filled with an almost overwhelming sense of relief.
She had taken the bracelet.
She had taken this high-paying job.
Which meant...
She had taken over that "heat-period notice" that could cost her life at any moment.
I picked up my heavy suitcase and walked toward the entrance of the villa complex.
However, just as I reached the gate, a familiar black Maybach with a private license plate suddenly stopped right in front of me with a sharp screech of brakes.
The car door opened.
Adrian stepped out in a black suit, his expression dark and sinister.
