Renée's POV:
"What the f**k do you mean you lost her!" Ryker shouted over the phone, causing me to startle as I sat on the cushioned swing next to the pool with a cryptogram book.
I closed the book and looked over at him as he paced back and forth on the stone patio. We had come out here to try to help calm him down and enjoy the cool clear night with the stars above. He was sitting next to me on the swing with my feet on his lap as he rubbed them and I did the puzzle. It's something we haven't had much of a chance to do for several years, mostly because most of his time is taken up by work at the office, at the loading docks, or with his men as they worked at tracking down Ravyn or keeping an eye on her.
