chapter twelve

Ire’s POV

I woke up the next day reeling from the warm feelings of my date last night, when I opened my phone to see a love message from Dotun oh! he sure knows how to get me, no mincing of words and no waste of time, his message made me feel all warm inside all over again, I sat on my bed for a while daydreaming about my life with him, how happy I would be and how happy he would be, how our kids will run around our house and we'll chase them around, wow, I felt on top of the world, I won’t be needing any coffee to warm me up this morning, I dressed up and went to work, the atmosphere was different I could sense it, it was like everyone was unusually happy today or perhaps it is my perception of things, Tola and Jide stepped closer to me at the site we were currently working on and Tola said "ok, boss lady, tell us why you are so happy, it is evident in everything you have been doing since this morning that something is different, you are mostly always happy but today you’re even more happy", hmm was all I said as I was not about to let the cat out of the bag yet, I’ll be doing this on my own terms and won’t let anyone put their own views in my head, don’t get me wrong, I love this two, but Tola always has an opinion on what and how she feel everyone should be doing or not doing thing, yes I would seek advice if I need it but from the right source. The day went by in a blurr, I got busy doing one thing or the other around the site before closing form work and I headed home straight to take a shower, relax, cook and eat while watching a movie, I love doing that from time to time, it helps me relax, midway through the movie I heard a knock on my door, this was a shock because I was not expecting any guest, I opened the door and Chi came in, she was in a black short gown looking all fine and sexy, she said we should go out together, she had a date at the People’s restaurant and she wanted me to come with, her exact words were “staying cooped in won’t get you a man girl, you need to go out more often” I wanted to tell her that Dotun and I are finally dating but taught better of it, better to tell her when her mind is not working out details of how she can dash me out to a man plus I think it was too late to back out. I wouldn’t want to leave her stranded so I quickily went in and got dressed, I wore a short white gown that got just below my knees, put on minimal make up as usual and off we went, on getting to the restaurant and stepping in to our seats I looked up and saw the guy who Chi set me up with, he was good looking but something was off about him, I just couldn't place my hand on it yet though he had the play boy thing written all over his face and I instantly regret hopping along on this date with Chi, he was a hands on kind of guy which was another turn off for me, infact he was a turn zero for me, his hands kept coming back to my lap over and over again and I had just about had enough of him when someone walked up to our table and before I could blink my eyes, gave him a sound slap, I looked up and Dotun was fuming with anger, wait what was he doing here, we didn’t have a date here, I saw a lady approaching us and she came to stand beside Dotun, I gave Dotun a stare that shows how angry I was and he had the guts to look confused, he kept asking me why I was on a date with a low life like the guy in front of me and I pointed to his guest as a response, he then turned, saw her and said oh, Sarah meet Ire, Ire this is Sarah my cousin, I looked down for a minute showing my apology and then I said I was actually about leaving, Chi who has been dumb founded all this while finally regained her senses and asked why I was leaving and I told her not to bother pairing me up with anyone ever again as her choices in men seems questionable, she felt offended and I could see the hurt in her eyes but it had to be said, I mean the guy she is dating gets angry at every slight opportunity and will even go as far as slapping her sometimes, to me that was unacceptable, I walked out of the restaurant and Dotun followed which made Sarah also follow us, Dotun opened his car for Sarah and she sat in the car while we talked, I explained the situation to him and he said ok but I should be more careful, I told him I could have handled the guy on my own and he just laughed and said I don’t doubt that but I wanted to express my jealousy publicly to let everyone know you are mine, I laughed and told him I don’t think that was the best way to let everyone know, he said I was right and that soon he will do it the right way, I wonder what he meant by that, he offered to drop me at home since I came with Chi in her car but I declined because I need to talk to Chi, I knew she was hurt by my words and I would like to wait and discuss something with her, he agreed and left. I waited outside for Chi and soon she came out though she avoided eye contact with me, she opened the door and we stepped in, she said she was taking me home, that I shouldn’t worry as she would not be setting me up on anymore dates, I let her say all she wanted before telling her about Dotun and I, I apologised for the way I spoke to her in the restaurant but I also told her she needed to make better choices in men so she can be happy, I told her I want nothing but the best for her, she accepted my apology and said "since you finally started dating, you now consider yourself a guru in love matters". we laughed it off and she took me home.
