Chapter 4: Dangers lurking on Christmas Eve.

839 Words
Christmas Eve Night. 7:00 PM Aurora's point of view. “I buckled up my dress after giving it an umpteenth glance through the mirror. I stood, my heart skipped a bit as my mind roomed in circles. I shut my eyes, then exhaled deeply.” “Today, I will have to make a decision, a heavy one at that but I still couldn't shake off the feeling that I'm being sought after by two half brothers who are ready to go tooth and nail to make sure they win.” “I flashed my gaze to the overcast sky and the sun which diffracted through the window, I wanted to see the end of the turmoil and watch how things would play out tonight at the Christmas Eve, Peter's family would be there tonight and others I wouldn't want a disaster to surface because of me...” “I was still drowning in my thoughts when the door opened slightly. My gaze traced the door until it landed on Peter, he looked all worried, his dimples on his face were invisible and the always dominant face now looked pale and sunken.” “Aurora..” he called my name softly; as I opened my mouth to speak, his knees found their way to the ground with his hands projected towards me; a tiny purple box that perfectly suits a ring was revealed.” “I paused, my brows rising in surprise. “Marry me again and make me complete.” “He let out and I shimmered from within like I was submerged in an ice bath. I remained silent, my eyes meeting and shifting from his gaze.” He continued, “I’m sorry Aurora, please marry me again, I'm ready to love and treat you like a queen you deserve to be, please don't say no.” “I watched his eyes and noticed he was still looking into mine; this broke me; my mind flashed back to our early relationship. I swallowed hard but couldn't shake off his half-brother, Alex. Alex was everything and more; Alex was like the lost friend you've ever wanted to meet. We barely met, and he has already rekindled something in me.” “I jerked back into reality when he slotted the ring into my finger. Was I dreaming, I held his arms pulling him up for a hug. Peter was that one annoying ex that just had a way of claiming right but seeing him completely different right now only made me think further; because the Peter I know wouldn't stoop so low to plead with his knees or even think of a remarriage.” “Thank you so much Aurora, I love you so much.” I hear him confess, a smile curls across his lips, and then I brush his pointed nose, combing my fingers through his beard. This was one of my love expressions for him before everything went sour.” We held each other's arms and lurked our eyes together. A call rushed in from Alex. “I will join you shortly; let me take this call,” I said while he turned to leave. I picked up the call, a loud noise hovering around the background. “Please Aurora stay away from Peter, he's got an evil intention tonight, remain close to me.” He snapped before he hung up the call. I sank into the recliner, my cheek burning anxiously. “What exactly was Alex talking about? Like.. I don't get why I have to keep hiding and being careful because of two incompatible personalities that just found themselves born to a world where unity and peace strive, but they choose the exact opposite.” Clothed in double mind and immense conflicting thoughts, I decided to see Alex and know what was happening; my curiosity picked up, but one thing seemed possible: I would know where all these would lead to by Valentine's Day.” I pulled my blonde hair, giving it a tight grip, then dashed out to see Alex. Sighting him from afar off, he's surrounded by three men. “Oh! My… who are these men, and what's happening there?.” I whisper to myself as I move forward in brisk, shaky steps. My wristwatch revealed 8 PM as the time, and our Christmas Eve was about to get started. As I prowled through, a stench with a putrid odour grew stronger and stronger in the atmosphere. I stared at both sides but found nobody, but a part of me had this conviction that it could be one of these many traditional herbalists who also came to enjoy the holiday. The more I watched, the intensity grew; I hastened my steps as I needed to get to Alex before something bad happened to him or at least talk things through with him. I was still racking my head when two heavy guys hijacked me, dragging my hair to their car. I tried to shout, but words failed me, and then I slumped.
