BAMIDELE MANSION
The Bamidele Mansion was unusually quiet.
Morning sunlight filtered through the tall windows of Diana's private sitting room, casting long shadows across the polished floor.
A cup of tea rested untouched before her.
She wasn't reading.
She wasn't working.
She was simply staring out the window.
Frederick entered quietly, closing the door behind him.
"You've been sitting here for almost an hour."
Diana let out a slow breath.
"I know."
He walked over and took the seat opposite her.
"You're thinking about it again."
For a moment, she didn't answer.
Then she nodded.
"I can't help it."
Her fingers tightened slightly around the teacup.
"If that recording ever resurfaces..."
She stopped herself.
Frederick remained calm.
"It hasn't."
"Not yet," Diana replied softly.
"The problem isn't just the recording."
She looked at him.
"It's what people would believe after seeing it."
Frederick studied her for a moment before speaking.
"Worrying won't change the past."
"No."
"It also won't stop the future."
Silence settled between them.
After a while, Frederick leaned back.
"Let's leave that for today."
Diana looked at him.
"Our son is supposed to be enjoying his honeymoon."
A faint smile finally touched her lips.
"I've been waiting for him to get married for years."
"And now that he finally has..."
She shook her head with a quiet laugh.
"I still find myself worrying."
"That's what mothers do."
She smiled a little more.
"When will they be back?"
"This evening, if everything goes as planned."
"I'd like to see them as soon as they arrive."
Frederick nodded.
"I'm sure they'll come here first."
Diana's expression softened.
"I hope they enjoyed themselves."
"So do I."
Outside, the morning remained peaceful.
Neither of them realized...
Far away, events already set in motion were moving closer to their family than either of them imagined.
SHYLA APARTMENT
The doorbell echoed through Shyla apartment.
She glanced up from the magazine in her hand before lazily saying,
"Come in."
The maid opened the door.
A middle-aged woman stepped inside hesitantly.
Her clothes were neat but worn, and worry was written all over her face.
"Shyla..."
Shyla didn't look up immediately.
"What is it?"
The woman clasped her hands together.
"Your father... he's sick again."
No response.
"The doctor said he needs treatment as soon as possible."
Shyla calmly turned a page.
"I've already paid enough."
"We're not asking for much."
"You always say that."
Her mother lowered her eyes.
"We wouldn't have come if we had another choice."
Silence.
Then Shyla closed the magazine and finally looked at her.
"I'll help."
Relief instantly appeared on her mother's face.
"But..."
The smile disappeared just as quickly.
"You'll do something for me."
Her mother nodded immediately.
"Anything."
Sheila stood and walked toward the window.
"From tomorrow onward, you'll both stay here."
Her mother blinked.
"Here?"
"Yes."
She turned around slowly.
"When I need respectable parents, you'll be my respectable parents."
Her mother's expression stiffened.
"You understand me, don't you?"
A long silence followed.
Finally...
"...Yes."
Shyla gave a satisfied nod.
"Good."
She picked up her phone and pressed a button.
Two housekeepers entered.
"Prepare the downstairs guest room."
She looked at one of them.
"After that, transfer money to the hospital."
"Yes, Miss Shyla."
Her mother looked at her gratefully.
"Thank you."
Shyla picked up her magazine again.
"You may go."
Her mother hesitated before quietly leaving the room.
As the door closed...
Sheila spoke without looking up.
"Oh..."
Her mother stopped.
"Tomorrow..."
A faint smile crossed Sheila's lips.
"you return to work."
The door closed.
This time...
Shyla's smile lingered.
SHARON HOME
Sharon's office was almost empty.
The personal items that had once occupied the shelves were gone.
Only a few neatly stacked files remained on the desk.
A knock sounded.
"Come in."
The Human Resources director stepped inside with a document in hand.
"Miss Sharon."
She looked up calmly.
"I have an official notice from the board."
He placed the envelope before her.
Sharon opened it without a word.
Her eyes moved steadily across the page.
When she reached the end...
She folded the letter neatly.
"The board has approved your return to the company," the director said.
"You will resume work tomorrow."
He paused.
"You will report to the Executive Operations Division."
Sharon remained expressionless.
"It is a management position."
Another brief silence followed.
"The board hopes you'll cooperate fully."
Sharon rose from her chair.
"I will."
The director seemed slightly surprised by her calm reaction.
"I'll inform them."
"You may."
He nodded politely before leaving the office.
The door clicked shut.
For a long moment...
Sharon stood motionless.
Then she walked to the floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the city.
Her reflection stared back at her.
"One step down..."
She murmured softly.
"...doesn't mean the climb is over."
A faint smile appeared on her lips.
"It simply means..."
"I'll have to climb again."
She picked up her handbag.
Tomorrow...
She would return.
And this time...
She intended to make sure everyone remembered exactly who Sharon chinedu was.
ADEBAYO MANSION
The Adebayo Mansion buzzed with quiet activity.
Housekeepers moved from one room to another, making final preparations.
Fresh flowers were arranged in crystal vases.
The dining table had already been set.
In the kitchen, the chef gave final instructions while the aroma of dinner slowly filled the house.
Clara walked through the living room, pausing every now and then to straighten a cushion or adjust a flower arrangement.
A young maid approached her.
"Miss Clara, the guest suite is ready."
Clara smiled.
"Good. Make sure the puppy's bed is placed in Mrs. Adebayo's room."
"Yes, Miss Clara."
The maid hurried away.
A few moments later, Diana descended the staircase.
She looked around carefully.
"Has everything been prepared?"
"Yes, ma'am," Clara replied. "They're expected back this evening."
Diana nodded, but her eyes drifted toward the entrance.
Clara couldn't help smiling.
"Ma'am..."
Diana looked at her.
"You've asked what time they'll arrive three times already."
"I did?"
"You did."
A soft laugh escaped Diana.
"I suppose I'm just looking forward to seeing them."
Just then, Frederick entered the living room.
"I had a feeling I'd find you here."
Diana folded her arms.
"I wanted to make sure everything was ready."
Frederick glanced around the spotless living room before looking back at her.
"I think the staff have done an excellent job."
"They have."
"Then perhaps you can stop inspecting every corner of the house."
Diana smiled despite herself.
"I'll stop... after they get home."
Frederick chuckled quietly.
"I expected that answer."
Outside, the evening sun slowly dipped toward the horizon.
The mansion waited...
For the return of its newlyweds.
The black sedan rolled slowly through the open gates of the Adebayo Mansion.
As the car came to a stop beneath the front entrance, two attendants stepped forward and opened the doors.
Anabelle stepped out first.
The small golden puppy peeked curiously from the pet carrier in her hands.
Its tiny bark immediately caught everyone's attention.
The front door opened.
Diana was the first to walk out.
Behind her came Frederick, Clara, and several members of the household staff.
"Welcome home," Diana said warmly.
Anabelle smiled.
"Thank you."
Thiago stepped out of the car, adjusting the cuff of his sleeve before walking around to Anabelle's side.
His eyes briefly fell on the puppy.
The little dog let out another excited bark.
Diana laughed.
"So this is the little fellow I've been hearing about."
Anabelle nodded.
"He made quite an impression on me."
"It seems you made one on him too."
The puppy wagged its tail enthusiastically.
Frederick looked at the pet carrier before pretending to sigh.
"I see."
"The real guest of honor has finally arrived."
A few of the staff couldn't help smiling.
Even Anabelle laughed softly.
"I don't think he'd disagree."
Clara stepped forward.
"I've already prepared a place for him."
"Thank you."
She carefully took the carrier from Anabelle.
"I'll take him upstairs while everyone gets settled."
The puppy gave one last curious look at Anabelle before Clara carried him inside.
Diana gently linked her arm with Anabelle's.
"You must be tired after traveling."
"A little."
"Come inside."
"Dinner is almost ready."
Together, they walked into the mansion.
For the first time since leaving for their honeymoon...
It truly felt like they had come home.
Dinner ended with warm conversation and quiet laughter.
Diana insisted that Anabelle take some desserts upstairs.
"You'll thank me later," she said with a smile.
Anabelle laughed.
"I don't think anyone has ever won an argument with you."
"They never do," Frederick replied.
Even Thiago allowed the corner of his lips to lift slightly.
After wishing everyone goodnight, the couple made their way upstairs.
The puppy trotted happily behind them, its tiny paws tapping against the polished wooden floor.
Inside their suite, Anabelle set the small carrier on the rug.
The puppy immediately climbed out and began exploring every corner of the room.
"It looks like someone's already making himself at home."
Thiago loosened the cuff of his shirt.
"He adapts quickly."
Anabelle watched the little puppy sniff curiously at the furniture before bursting into soft laughter when it became distracted by its own reflection in the glass door.
"I think he's confused."
"So it would seem."
She crouched down and gently picked him up.
"You'll get used to this place soon."
The puppy rested quietly in her arms.
For a brief moment...
The room was peaceful.
Then...
A knock sounded at the door.
Three calm knocks.
Thiago glanced toward the entrance.
"I'll get it."
He opened the door.
One of his trusted men stood outside.
"Good evening, sir."
"What is it?"
The man lowered his voice.
"Our team completed another inspection of Mr. Lawrence's vehicle."
Thiago's expression remained unchanged.
"And?"
The man carefully held out a sealed evidence pouch.
"We found this hidden beneath the driver's seat."
Thiago accepted it.
His eyes rested on the unopened package.
"Has anyone examined it?"
"No, sir."
"Good."
He was silent for a moment.
Then he spoke quietly.
"Prepare my study."
"I'll be there shortly."
"Yes, sir."
The man bowed slightly before leaving.
Thiago closed the door.
Behind him, Anabelle was still sitting on the rug, gently stroking the puppy's head.
She looked up.
"Is everything alright?"
Thiago lowered his gaze to the sealed pouch in his hand.
"...I'll have to take care of something."
