With a huge smile on his face, the young prince Yi Eul was smiling as he kept on staring at the gifts on his lap. They just got home from the House of Yi where Queen Jang Eun was residing.
Of course, he was happy for this day. Anticipated this day even. Every child is always happy and excited about Christmas.
“Oh, you got so many gifts, my dear little prince,” young prince Yi Eul turned his head towards his mom, Princess Si Young as she looked at his only son with a gentle smile on his face.
“Eung!” young prince Yi Eul nodded at his mom with a toothy grin flaunting on his face. “I received so many gifts and even to halma-mama!”
“And what will you say if you receive gifts or other things?”
Young prince Yi Eul kept the grin on his face. “Thank you.”
Princess Si Young chuckled and patted her son’s head. “Good boy. That’s good, my son.”
Young prince Yi Eul’s giggles filled the whole limousine.
“Honey, we’re here,” the both of them looked at his dad, Prince Yi Jeong who’s sitting in front of them. “I’ll go out first,” he signaled two of his guards—one is on the passenger seat and one is actually the driver. “The two of you. Watch over Yi Eul.”
“Yes, Your Highness.”
Crown Prince Yi Jeong went out of the car while Princess Si Young was still talking at her son.
“Stay here, baby. Okay? We’ll get something inside the shop then we’ll come back right after. Be a good boy, okay?”
Young prince Yi Eul nodded with a smile as he hugged his favorite tiger stuffed toy. “Okay, mom.”
Princess Si Young smiled at him then she patted his head and went out of the car. Crown Prince Yi Jeong escorted her inside the said shop which is actually a clothing shop.
They really took an hour or two and young prince Yi Eul finally got bored than he started talking to his stuffed toy, Horang. (*Horang is a Korean term for ‘Tiger’)
Suddenly, he heard a knock from the limousine’s window and heard a muffled sound outside. The limousine’s windows were tinted so no one could actually see who’s inside the car but the ones who were inside the car would see who the one outside is.
And young prince Yi Eul could actually see a young girl in rubbish, old brown jacket and scarf. She actually looked neat—it’s just that her clothes were all a mess, especially the jacket and the scarf.
He could actually tell that the girl was singing a Christmas carol while clapping her gloved hands. He couldn’t help but cringe when he saw that the gloves were all dirty and even have holes on it.
Silently, he opened the limousine’s window and heard the girl singing the last part of the Christmas carol she’s singing.

“Merry Christmas,” the girl greeted and young prince Yi Eul could tell that she’s cold.
“I’m sorry, I couldn’t give you money because I don’t have one…” young prince Yi Eul told her.
“O-Oh, it’s okay. I just tried the chance…” the young girl smiled as her cheeks blushed as well as her nose starting to red. She must be cold, young prince Yi Eul could actually see that.
“But I have something to give you,” the young prince told her. The young girl just blinked in confusion and just waited for the young prince to emerge again on the window.
When he finally did, young prince Yi Eul gently wrapped the red scarf onto her neck as well as his black coat and his gloves.
“W-What are you…”
“You looked cold,” young prince Yi Eul responded to her. “Our car is warm so I don’t really feel the cold of the winter but you did feel it so I’ll give my scarf, my gloves, and my jacket to you. And oh!” young prince Yi Eul fetched his favorite stuffed toy Horang and gave it to her. “That’s Horang. He’s been my friend for a long time. We could actually see that you’re alone so he’ll accompany you. Please take good care of Horang, okay?”
The young girl could actually feel the tears started to pool in her eyes. She accepted the said stuffed toy and hugged it tightly as if her life depended on it. “T-Thank you. Thank you so much.”
“By the way, what is your name?” young prince Yi Eul asked her.
She smiled and responded. “J-Jae Kyung.”
“I’m Yi Eul!” he grinned. “Merry Christmas, Jae Kyung-ah!”
“Merry Christmas… Merry Christmas, Yi Eul-ah…”
Prince Yi Eul looked at the red scarf wrapped around his neck then he looked at Jae Kyung who was now grinning at him. “Do you like it?”
“Is this the only thing you got me this Christmas?”
Jae Kyung frowned then scoffed. “Wow, you demanded a gift and you said any kind so I got you one—no, scratch that—I made you one! I spent a week of sleepless nights to make that scarf so it’s special and you couldn’t see the same design of that scarf around Seoul but mine. If you don’t like it, then give it back to me, you ungrateful prince!”
Before she could even grab the scarf back, Prince Yi Eul pulled her closer to him and wrapped the remaining scarf around her neck. They’re now wearing the same scarf, facing each other.
Prince Yi Eul smiled at her and spoke. “Yeah, I don’t like it. I love it.”
“Hmph,” Jae Kyung looked away, trying to hide the smile on her face. “Good.”
“You’re such an airhead.”
“Why are you teasing me again? Are you serious?”
Prince Yi Eul just chuckled and looked up. He paused for a moment as he stared at the thing above their heads.
Mistletoe.
“Hey, are you sure you don’t like to receive anything from me?”
“You actually gave me so many luxurious things that some of those are not really that needed. I’m already contented that you actually liked the scarf.”
“But I really wanted to give you something nice tonight.”
Jae Kyung looked at him. “What is it?”
Prince Yi Eul’s eyes settled on hers and his hand gently cupped her both cheeks and gave her a chaste kiss on the lips. It started gentle, then it became deeper that Jae Kyung couldn’t help but savor his lips onto hers.
It took them a minute to finally stop kissing and as they stare at each other’s eyes, they both chuckled and stick their foreheads to each other.
“Merry Christmas, Jae Kyung-ah.”
