chapter eleven

IT WAS THE FIRST of December, making it twelve days until my birthday. And six hours of walking and I still haven't found a place to rest. The sun had set four hours ago and even with the cool breeze, sweat trickled down my chin and my body was tired.  My legs were wobbly and my eyes felt heavy, but I still pushed myself to at least find shelter in what felt like a different dimension. I walked across to a nearby tree and slumped against it, before opening my backpack and taking out one of the six water bottles I brought with me, chugging it down, before grabbing the second one. I stopped midway through my second water bottle and took in my surroundings. The trees were much taller and gloomier than by the entrance of the woods and there were no openings seen close by. A cockroach decided to start crawling on my shoe and I flung it away, sighed and pushed myself off of the tree. Where do I go from here? I felt as if I've been walking for hours. I definitely wasn't walking in circles, that's for sure because this part of the woods was unrecognisable and probably high-risk. I looked around for at least a tiny opening or path that led to a campsite or hut but all I was met with was dirt and fallen leaves in each direction. Craning my neck, I looked up to see if I can at least see the sky, but the tall trees blocked my view. "I knew I should've kept aware of where I was coming from..." I mumbled and scratched my neck. This wasn't a good idea. A shuffle of leaves was heard above me and I looked to see an owl staring directly at me, catching me off guard so I smiled at waved at it only for it to turn its head away from me, "You're really just like your grandfather." I thought I heard it say. My eyes widened and my mouth dropped open, "A-Ahhh!" I shouted and jumped back, "You can speak!" It looked back at me and hooted, tilting its head to a side as if to say 'What are you talking about?'. I chuckled then sighed "Must be the lack of sleep..." before walking in the direction of the moonlight hoping to find a place to rest for the remainder of the night. ━━━ "Remi? Rems, wakey wakey. We're late." I heard a familiar voice call my name. I mumbled and turned over, feeling the soft pillow underneath me, "Give me a second.." "No! You always say that. Get.. urgh' up!" I felt a tug on my arm, lifting my body to sit up, "Jeez you're heavy.. snap out of it!" "Alright, alright. I'm up." I glared at the dark-haired girl and rubbed the side of my face which was slapped, "So why aren't you dressed?" I smirked at her, for she only wore a towel and was the one telling me to dress. "Haha..funny." She rolled her eyes. Your breath stinks. Go get ready." I looked at my phone, which read 5:00 a.m, "Ty, we have three hours until class starts. Why did you wake me up this early?" I said through a yawn, "I'm going back to bed." Feeling my head touch the pillow, I smiled and sighed loudly, "Wake me up in two hours." "But we're late." Her voice cracked, "You didn't forget did you?" I opened one eye and dragged my hand from behind my neck, "Forget what?" She gasped, "I knew it! You always forget!" "Forget what? And why are you shouting at me!" I jumped off the bed, "Instead of shouting why don't you tell me?!" "You always want someone to tell you what you have to remember and never find out on your own!" She flung her arms, making her towel become loose, "You never even say, 'Well let me think back. Let me find out what I'm forgetting.' but instead, you think you have it under control and you just lay back! Well, guess what? I'm not telling you! Figure out yourself!" Tyna placed her hand over the top of her towel and stomped away, slamming the door behind her. "What are you talking about?" I shouted after her. I turned the knob to find it locked "Tyna open this door!"  "I'll open it when you remember!" She screamed at me. ...but the door never opened. The rain started to pour and I groaned. Shelter was still nowhere to be seen and the moon was going down. Was it that bad? Did anyone even enter the woods to just make something like shelter to camp? Has anyone even stepped foot inside of these woods beside my family? "Ridiculous! Why did I choose this time to even step foot out?" I shouted at no one in particular.  I was becoming grumpy, and my clothes, along with my bag (and probably the inside of it since it wasn't waterproof) were getting soaked.  Gritting my teeth, I kicked a tree out of anger and fell down. "Damn you!" "I was looking for you." I heard a voice say. I quickly turned my head to where the voice was coming from, "Who's there?" "Me. I'm here." I heard a deep chuckle and the familiar wolf from in my dream appeared in front of me, "Ahh! You can talk! Like in real life! I'm not dreaming.. aren't I?" I pinched my cheek. "No, you're not dreaming. This is in fact real life. As you can tell. Your voice led me right here and I'm pleased to have found you. Haha, you're very loud for someone as tiny as you." "You're to talk." I mumbled and rolled my eyes, "Why can you speak? You're a wolf. I shouldn't be talking back to a wolf who speaks in a British accent."  "Haha way too funny." He said. His voice laced with sarcasm. "You can understand me, which means, your grandmother gave you the necklace as she said she would." I heard a smirk in his voice. I stayed quiet and placed my hand over the necklace securing it, making him chuckled. "I'm not here to harm you but to help you help your people." "My people? My people are those who are outside of the woods! Counting on me to restore history and continue living what my ancestors had restored for us! So tell me. Really," I snarled at him, "Who do you say my people are?" "Your people are us, Remi. All of us as one. You're not wrong, but neither are you completely correct. Now tell me. Why are you here? Why did you come so deep here for? Surely it was not for me. Surely it was not for us." A group of wolves came from behind the trees, including the wolf with the same green eyes as me. Deja vu hit me and I began to get dizzy. "Hello Remi, or should I say, Violet." The wolf said. "I am Jack Hunter." 1181 words
