Chapter 1: The Unexpected, Deep Kiss

603 Words
In B City, at the most exclusive Crown Hotel. Dressed in a finely tailored black suit, Yan Chenye wore an enigmatic smile on his chiseled, handsome face—impenetrable, revealing none of his intentions. With the wedding march playing, Ye Weixi moved step by step toward this man she had never met. Sweat began to gather in her palms, and she fought the urge to slip away to the restroom just to wash her hands. How had she let her resolve falter, her heart soften, agreeing to her father’s plea to stand in for her vanished twin sister, Fang Wanru, in this marriage? She should have done more research on this man. Rumors portrayed him as terrifying as a force of nature, a reputation she had brushed aside—until now. Now she could feel the sheer danger radiating from him, an aura that warned others to stay back. If she had a choice, she would have told her father that she wanted no part in replacing Fang Wanru. Once the ceremony was over, how would she escape? In a soft whisper, she turned to her father, Fang Wei, who held her arm, “Can we tell Yan Chenye the truth? I have a bad feeling about this.” A chilling image flashed through her mind—a vision of herself, reduced to nothing, should he discover the truth. She was so young, with countless lives waiting for her to save; she couldn’t risk her life for Fang Wanru’s wedding. Fang Wei’s body tensed, his legs weakening slightly. He was nervous too, but for the sake of Ye Corporation, he wouldn’t give up, no matter the risk. “Trust me, Weixi,” he said, steadying himself. “The outcome would be the same either way. Please, just do this for me.” Taking a deep breath, Ye Weixi gave his arm a gentle shake, signaling him to keep walking forward. Yan Chenye noticed Fang Wei’s tension and reached out to take his bride’s hand. “Thank you, Dad. I will take care of her.” The word “Dad” left Fang Wei momentarily stunned. He began to respond, “I wouldn’t da—” but quickly corrected himself, “Yes, I can rest easy with Wanru in your care.” Fang Wei cast a deep look at Ye Weixi before retreating discreetly. Turning to face her, Yan Chenye met her gaze, noticing the slight frown on her face as she took an instinctive step back. She had to admit, he was even more striking than his photos suggested. Maybe it was the lighting, but his skin was pale and smooth, and he easily towered over her own height of five foot seven—probably around six foot two. As a surgeon, she couldn’t help but notice his perfect proportions, almost like a living example of the golden ratio. Her gaze traveled upward, and she swallowed, her dry throat catching as she took in the intensity of his dark eyes. His gaze, laden with unreadable emotions, was fixed entirely on her. As Ye Weixi studied Yan Chenye, he too was observing her, not missing the slightest movement she made. Her beauty remained alluring and seductive, but the undeniable strength radiating from her core couldn’t be hidden. Finally, he had married this woman—this beautiful, clear-eyed girl who resembled a still, deep lake. Yan Chenye’s lips curved into a faint smile as he leaned in, unable to resist claiming those soft, rose-colored lips stretched in a delicate bow toward him. “Mmm…” The unexpected, passionate kiss left Ye Weixi’s mind momentarily blank…
