Chapter 2: The First Kiss

545 Words
Yin Ying’s pretty face flushed as she looked down, awkwardly fidgeting with her fingers. She gave Ye Weixi a gentle push on the arm. “Don’t go spreading that around. We should be focused on your situation—I can’t help you with this one; you’ll have to fend for yourself.” With that, Yin Ying stood up, grabbed her bag, and prepared to leave. “Hey, you’re not staying with me a little longer?” Ye Weixi called out, a little disappointed, as Yin Ying reached the door. “Yan Chenye isn’t someone my family can afford to offend. Anyway, even if something *does* happen between you two, he’s so handsome you won’t be losing out,” Yin Ying teased, trying to cheer her up. Ye Weixi frowned, her beautiful face pinched with distress. “Sure, he’s handsome, but… it’s still—ugh. I can’t even imagine that kind of scene.” As she finished speaking, Yin Ying seemed to remember something and returned, bending down beside Ye Weixi and whispering, “During the ceremony, I overheard one of the bridesmaids—the one who’s close to Fang Wanru—mentioning that Yan Chenye didn’t actually marry her out of love. Apparently, they’ve only met three times over the past year, each time just for staged, affectionate photos that get released to the public so people think they’re a happy couple.” Ye Weixi’s eyes widened as she looked at Yin Ying. “What are you saying? Are you trying to scare me?” A chill ran down her spine. If Yan Chenye wasn’t marrying Fang Wanru out of love, then what was his reason? But regardless of the reason, Ye Weixi couldn’t shake the terrifying images that played out in her mind, scenes where she ended up dismembered in some horror story. Seeing Ye Weixi’s growing apprehension, Yin Ying quickly added, “There are also rumors that Yan Chenye might be… you know, uninterested in women, or even into men. So it’s possible he chose Fang Wanru as a partner of convenience, but she got cold feet at the last minute…” Ye Weixi snapped back to reality. As long as she wasn’t going to end up buried here in B City, she didn’t care whether Yan Chenye was into men or not. But then again… she was pretty sure Yan Chenye was certainly *capable*, though his stamina was still a question. The idea of him possibly being attracted to men made her curious, though. She pondered over it, trying to recall any details from the wedding ceremony. Could he have imagined her as a man while kissing her? Or perhaps his lover was even at the wedding, and he’d been looking at them while kissing her? Shaking off the ridiculous thoughts, Ye Weixi failed to remember anything of real value. Before she could dwell on it further, Yin Ying leaned in close again. “Oh, and there was this other girl—don’t know who she was—who chimed in, saying Yan might actually have a girl he cares about. But with his family pressuring him to marry his fiancée, Qin Xiaofan, he went for Fang Wanru as a temporary fix to keep space open for the woman he loves.”
