We Meet Again

CHARLOTTE’S POV I just walked past them to the kitchen when Quinn said, “Michael was the one who insisted that I treat her like a slave”. I wanted to cry again but somehow I managed to hold my tears back and I opened the refrigerator to take a bottle of water. “She’s not a slave, she’s only working here as a maid to pay off her parents debt, stop treating her like she’s not a human”, Mrs. Devi said strictly. I liked her but I don’t know if that’s how all Indian women behaved or is it that she was naturally nice. I tried spending as much time as I could in the kitchen, hoping I’d get a few more information about my parents or probably my brother. “You know I’m a good person”, Quinn smiled to her. She was very far from good, she was a witch who would do anything to please her grandmaster. I almost barfed at her statement. She was so annoying and if I had the chance to deal with her, I'll make sure I break her legs. “Well act like one. Do you think that if her parents were alive she’d be here doing house chores for us? I mean pit yourself in her shoes, you know what I mean Quinn and please... don't let me repeat myself again”, Mrs. Devi sighed as she used her hands to cover her face. There was a knock on the door. I quickly took another sip from the bottle before I covered it and kept it back in the refrigerator. I was a bit hungry too. I ate nothing but a small piece of toast bread. I wasn’t hungry then but now I was. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ “Good morning Mr. Raymond”, Mrs. Devi hugged the man. He gave a pleasant smile as he walked into the house. “What of your husband?”, he said looking very handsome. Mrs. Devi had her head down. “Is everything okay?”, he added. “Mr. Ben... died two years ago”, Quinn said sadly, as she slowly walked out of the sitting room to where they stood. Mr. Raymond held her hands tight and apologized. He understood the kind of pain she must have gone through. “It’s fine”, she said as she forcefully placed a smile on her face. Her husband had died and there was nothing she could do about it, no matter how many times she had cried and prayed for God to bring him back to life. Charlotte stepped out of the kitchen carrying a plate of fried chicken upstairs. She stopped when she saw Mr. Raymond. He looked familiar but she couldn’t figure out where she had seen him. “Good morning”, she greeted him. “Charlotte Walker, it’s nice to see you again after so many years”, he frowned. Charlotte looked away and went upstairs. Quinn followed her. As she got into her room, she sat on the bed, she was still thinking about that man downstairs. “Who could he be?”, She said to herself. “Hey”, Quinn said walking into her room. Charlotte looked up at her, as Quinn sat beside her and took a small piece of the fried chicken and ate. “Do you know that man?”, she said calmly. “I swear, I can’t tell where I’ve seen him but I think I know him”, she took a bite of the fried chicken. “I know I haven’t been nice to you ever and it might sound awkward coming from someone like me but... Mr. Raymond is not the kind of person you’d want to joke with. I saw the frown on his face when he talked to you. If you remember where you’ve seen him before, I’m happy to listen”, Quinn said as she took another piece of the chicken. “Was this coming from Quinn? No, this wasn’t Quinn talking to me”, Charlotte thought. She nodded and finally said “I will”. “I’m sorry I treated you like a slave, Michael told me to”, she pleaded. “Mhmm”, She hummed as she ate the last piece of chicken in the plate. “Thank you for the chicken”, Quinn smiled and left the room. Why was she being nice to Charlotte all of a sudden? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ “You know my girl”, Mrs. Devi spoke with her face straightened to Mr. Raymond who was already sitting on the sofa with his legs crossed. “She was a little girl when we met. She was very rude to me each time I visited her parents”, he gave a slight laugh. “Why didn’t she like you? I mean you're nice”, Mrs. Devi was suspicious. She knew something was up. “Who is the other girl that was standing here with you?”, he ditched her question. “Michael’s girlfriend”, She said, turning to the kitchen “Let me offer you sweet wine”. “No. I’m fine, I just came to check on your family. I haven’t been in this country for some years now. My mom and I had something to take care of. It was nice seeing you. Thank you”, he said as he stood up.. He walked at a slow pace out of the door. Mrs.Devi rushed to lock the door. She went upstairs to Charlotte’s room, where she met her sleeping. She wanted to talk to her but she was obviously tired so she left. ”Mr. Raymond was here”, Quinn said to Michael. She was sitting on his laps. He was drying her hair with her towel, she just finished taking her bath. “What did he come for? Doesn’t he know that my dad is dead”, Michael said as he comb her hair gently. “Maybe to check on us... Charlotte greeted him but he replied her a frown, I don’t know but I think something’s wrong”, she got a bigger brush and handed it to Michael to brush her hair. “And what has that got to do with us?”, he started to brush her hair. “Look here dear”, he turned her head to face him, “I don’t wanna hear anything about that girl and her problems”, he hugged her tightly and placed a gentle kiss on her lips. It started slowly at first, then he got wild. He kissed her neck and bit her a little. She liked it. He wanted more but she would never let him sleep with her. She had always told him she wasn’t ready yet. He was pissed. “We’ve been together for three good years Quinn. You still think you’re not ready. I am a man for Christ’s sake. Why are you doing this to me?”, he stood up from the bed and left the room. She felt guilt in her heart that she wasn’t giving him the pleasure he deserved. At the same time, she didn’t want to him to find out that she had done it before because she knew how he would react. She stood up from the bed and got dressed. She put on her black cargo pants and a white crop top. She wore a little makeup and carried a small fancy black bag. She was going for a party. It was her best friend’s birthday. She looked in the mirror and smiled at how beautiful she looked.
