Chapter Three; Save Me!

“What do you want? What are you two staring at?” Dennis barked at them aggressively.
The attack was so fast. More like he was waiting for them to act. They are yet to state the purpose of their presence, and he's already acting wild.
“Nothing, sir,” Sophie stuttered.
She suddenly forgot the reason for their coming. She was scared that Dennis might relieve her of her duty. She isn't ready to risk her job because of Anna.
“Good! Now leave.
Don't even think of getting involved in this,” Dennis warned them.
Maria didn't bother speaking. She saw how Dennis treated Sophie. She isn't willing to be found in Dennis's bad book.
“Sorry, sir. We'd just leave right now,” Maria succumbed to pressure. She stormed off with Sophie as they settled in the kitchen.
“What just happened out there?” Maria asked.
It just dawned on her that they screwed up. They never wanted to abandon Anna to suffer.
At the same time, their job is more important to them than anything else in the world. They know the stress they went through just to get the job.
“What do we do now?”
Asked Maria. She can't stop pacing around.
She is starting to hate herself for not doing the right thing. She also imagined the pain Anna would be going through right now if no help came her way.
“I have a plan,”
Sophie snapped her hands as a thought swarmed across her mind.
She didn't speak immediately. She limps to the door and scans sideways to be sure nobody is coming from anywhere.
Quietly, she sneaked back to Maria and whispered the plan to her ear. Her voice was so low. If Maria weren't next to her, she would have needed a miracle to grasp the words.
“Are you serious?” Maria covered her mouth to stop her yelling from alerting Dennis.
“We just have to try
That's the only way.
He won't let us save her,” Sophie explained.
She's equally scared as Maria. At the same time, she's worried about Anna even more. She doesn't want to contribute to Anna's death when she could have done something to stop it.
“Alright,” Sophie sighed.
“Go ahead with it since that's the only way out.”
Without hesitation, Maria took out her phone and called the ambulance team. She ensured that her voice was low enough to avoid drawing attention from the real enemy, Dennis.
Immediately the call ended, Maria and Sophie kept praying silently and hoping that the emergency team wouldn't fail.
“We are running out of time,” Sophie cries out after staring at her wristwatch continuously.
Her heart keeps beating faster. She wasn't the one bleeding in the living room, yet she felt it the most. She assumed Anna was her biological sister.
“Let's be hopeful. Don't give up so soon,” Maria advised.
She's trying her best to stay strong even though her heart is failing. She can't predict what will happen in the next few minutes.
The Dennis she saw in the living room is more than capable of killing Anna and making it seem like she committed suicide.
“Did you hear that sound?” Sophie calls Maria's attention just like the previous time.
“The ambulance!” Maria nearly screamed her lungs out after putting her ears closer to the window. They both rushed outside to welcome the ambulance.
This time, they aren't bothered if rescuing Anna will be detrimental to their jobs. They're so sure of getting a job elsewhere should Dennis decide to sack them.
Upon arriving in the living room, they were shocked to discover that Dennis was absent. No sign of him anywhere in the house.
And Anna? She's struggling to keep up with her last breath.
She kept crawling on the ground and weeping her eyes out. She has practically exhausted all the tears in her eyes. All that is left is blood.
“Let's help her get to the ambulance immediately,” Maria alerted Sophie. She never once considered the sudden presence of Dennis.
Within her, she has decided to smash a bottle of liquor on Dennis's head if he dares to stop them from saving Anna.
The ambulance arrived on time. The rescue team was fast enough to wheel out the sick bed.
“What happened to her?” One of the nurses asked Maria as Anna was placed on the sick bed.
Maria and Sophie stared at each other. Nobody was ready to spill. They knew exactly what happened, but they didn't have the nerve to tell.
“Don't worry. We will discuss this after,” the nurse changed her mind. The delay is getting dangerous. Anna is losing so much blood.
With the way Maria and Sophie looked at each other like lost refugees, the nurses can be sure that she won't get a response for the rest of the year. Anna's life is more than just important to her, and she can't gamble on that.
The medical team had to place Anna on oxygen to keep her conscious. They also did all the necessary exercises to ensure they buy her enough time before she is taken to the hospital for proper treatment.
“Who's coming with us?” One of the nurses asked Sophie and Maria.
They need someone they could bank on to feed them with information about Anna, should anything go wrong.
It's a direct question, yet the most crucial of all. Maria and Sophie know what's at stake.
They already believed that their jobs were gone. They'd prefer to resign themselves rather than be sacked after a national disgrace.
“She will go with you while I stay back,” Maria volunteered.
“Call me if anything goes wrong,” she told Sophie while trying to fight back her tears.
It was a difficult decision to make. She stormed off, depriving Sophie of asking questions.
“Awesome! Please come with us immediately,” the nurse implored Sophie.
Sophie was left shattered.
She couldn't speak until she got inside the ambulance.
It rained tears and blood for Sophie as she watched Anna battle to stay alive while they drove to the hospital.
