“Where are you?” Maria hit the nail on the head without delay. She was shaky over the phone. She spoke as though she had a gun pointed at her head.
“Please calm down and talk to me. I can barely understand what you just said,” Sophie urged Maria.
From the manner in which Maria spoke, Sophie can tell that there's a danger looming ahead. She's still trying to convince herself that Anna is in safe hands.
“Is the call from the hospital?” Dennis leaned forward. He attempts to make Sophie speak, but she isn't willing.
She avoided him without a second thought. She also drifted away from Dennis just to pay more attention to the telephone conversation with Maria.
“Sorry for the delay. What did you say again?” She returns to the conversation.
She spoke in a soft tone to ensure Dennis didn't have a glimpse of what was discussed.
“It's Anna,” Maria cried.
“What happened to her?” Sophie screamed. She hurriedly covered her mouth after recalling that Dennis hadn't left yet.
“What happened to my wife?” Dennis exclaimed like a concerned husband.
He just couldn't overlook the possibility that Anna might be dead. He's scared of spending the rest of his life because of murder.
His act of remorse wasn't enough to make Sophie spill. She starved him of the complete gist. She still wasn't comfortable speaking to Dennis, regardless of his being her boss.
The single act of Dennis created that monster in Sophie. She isn't sure if she can still forgive Dennis, even if he kisses her feet or worships the ground she walks on.
“Is that Mr Dennis? Please tell him to come quickly. His presence is needed at the hospital,” Maria revealed. Sophie wasn't aware that Maria heard Dennis.
“Why do they want to see him? He shouldn't be allowed anywhere close to Anna. Have you forgotten what he did to her?” She reminded Maria.
She's yet to understand what Maria is insinuating. If Sophie weren't standing next to Dennis, she would have speculated that he bribed Maria for an easy passage to the hospital.
“No questions, please. If he doesn't come here in thirty minutes, we may lose Anna,” Maria warned Sophie.
She ended the call afterwards, even before Sophie could ask questions. Seconds later, Sophie gets a text from Maria. The text contains the address of the hospital.
Sophie goes mute. She has no idea how to approach Dennis and tell him about the development, not after she had turned down his request earlier.
“Will Anna be fine?
Please talk to me,” Dennis inquired.
He didn't show any sign of giving up soon. He may be upset at Anna for what she did. At the same time, he wants her to stay alive.
“She's not dead. You can come with me to the hospital. Maria just sent the address to my phone,” Sophie disclosed.
She didn't make it seem like Dennis was specifically asked to show up. She would rather not make Dennis feel special.
“Thank you for granting my request. It means a lot to me,” Dennis expressed his gratitude to Sophie.
He wasn't done talking before she walked out on him. She headed straight to the car, waiting for Dennis to show up and start the trip.
Dennis shakes his head in pity. He blamed himself for the disrespect he's getting from Sophie and Maria.
“If it wasn't for what happened, they stand no chance. It's their audacity for me,” He humbled in regret.
He can't wait for Anna to fully regain consciousness so he can retain his leadership status in the house.
He walked to the car, harbouring the spirit of optimism that nothing had happened to Anna. Dennis got to the car and still met Sophie with a frown on her face. She refused to look in his direction.
“How do we locate the hospital?” Dennis asked.
His question was left unanswered. His phone beeped afterwards. It's a forwarded address from Sophie on how to locate the hospital.
“This isn't happening,” Dennis laughed.
The laughter didn't come from a place of happiness. He bears so much rage towards Sophie. Unfortunately, he can't do anything about it.
He'd rather not pour out his full anger on Sophie, especially when Anna is fighting for her life in the hospital, all thanks to the multiple blows she suffered at the hands of Dennis.
He buried his face in shame and started the trip. He has a thousand things to say to Sophie, but he doesn't know where to start. He'd rather let go and focus on the journey to the hospital.
Throughout the trip, Sophie and Dennis never spoke a word to each other. More like they were irritated by each other's presence.
“I believe this is the place,” Dennis said after they pulled up in front of a hospital.
He checked the address he got from Sophie again just to be sure. The moment he raised his head. Sophie was out of the car, heading to the lobby area.
“She just walked out on me. How dare she do that to me? What disrespect,” Dennis fumed.
He hit the steering wheel out of frustration since he couldn't hit Sophie. He is trying not to react badly, but Sophie keeps pushing him to the wall. She's also bringing out the beast in him.
“I'd just pretend as though she didn't just do that. I'd rather be worried about Anna. She's the reason I'm here,” Dennis cautioned himself.
He left the car and walked to the lobby area, only to see Maria and Sophie speaking to a doctor. Immediately, Maria saw him, and she looked away. She acted like he wasn't visible to her.
Dennis overlooked the attitude. He didn't let it get to his head. Right in his presence, Maria pointed towards Dennis' direction.
Minutes after she did that, the doctor approached Dennis. “Good day, sir. I believe you must be Mr Dennis, the husband of Miss Anna?”
Dennis halted in his response to process why Maria pointed at him. He guessed that they must have told the Doctor negative things about him while he was in the car.
