The sun filtered through the curtains of Rohan’s room, casting a soft golden light across his sheets. He hadn’t gotten much sleep the night before. His mind was too occupied—too restless. He had waited his entire life for the moment when he would become Alpha. But now that it was official, now that the title was his, something—someone—had taken over every thought, every second of his existence.
Abigail.
She wasn’t just the girl he had met that day in the kitchen, the one who had looked up at him with those wide, innocent eyes. She was so much more. She was his mate.
But she didn’t know it yet.
Rohan let out a frustrated sigh, running a hand through his messy hair. He had thought becoming Alpha would be the hardest part of his life. He was wrong. Now, with the weight of his new position pressing down on him, it was the unbearable ache of wanting Abigail that threatened to consume him.
He couldn’t get her out of his mind. Every time he closed his eyes, her scent—vanilla, sweet orange, and something indescribable—wrapped around him like a warm blanket. Every time he heard her laugh or saw the way she carried herself with such quiet strength, his heart hammered in his chest. And all he could think was that she had no idea what she meant to him.
Rohan didn’t know how much longer he could hold back.
His wolf, Dean, was a constant presence in his mind, pacing restlessly. “She’s ours, Rohan,” Dean grumbled, the possessive tone unmistakable. “You can smell her. You can feel the bond. Why are we waiting?”
“I’m not rushing her, Dean,” Rohan answered softly, trying to ignore the yearning building in his chest. “I want her to come to me when she’s ready. If I push her too fast, she might not feel the same.”
“She’s our mate,” Dean argued, a hint of frustration lacing his voice. “She’s the one. You’re just scared of rejection.”
Rohan rubbed his temples, the weight of his emotions bearing down on him. It was true. He was scared. What if she didn’t feel the same way? What if she rejected him?
Unable to sit still, Rohan jumped out of bed and dressed quickly, heading straight for his mother’s quarters. The one person who could always calm him was his Luna, his mother.
He knocked on her door softly, then entered without waiting for a response.
“Mom, I need to talk to you,” he said, his voice tight with anxiety.
The alpha looked up from his desk, where he had been organizing pack affairs. He had a look on his face but said “she’s sleeping Rohan, stop bothering my mate and go find yours!.”
Luna Mae heard her mate and couldn’t help scolding him “ leave him alone” then she smiled warmly at her son, always so in tune with his moods. “What’s troubling you, dear?” she asked, gesturing for him to sit.
Rohan hesitated, then blurted out, “The mute omega. Abigail. I think she’s… I think she’s my mate.”
The Luna’s eyes widened, and a soft, knowing smile crossed her lips. “Oh, my dear boy, Am so happy to hear this, she’s a lovely girl.” She chuckled, though there was an edge of excitement in her voice. “You’re not the first to have your heart stolen by her.”
“Mom, I can’t stop thinking about her,” Rohan admitted, his voice cracking slightly. “But she doesn’t know. I can’t tell her yet. What if she doesn’t feel the same way?”
The Luna’s smile softened with understanding. She knew how difficult this was for her son. To be Alpha, to bear the responsibility of their pack, and yet to feel so vulnerable, so unsure when it came to love.
“You’re scared of rejection,” she said gently, leaning forward. “But don’t you see? Abigail has already given you so much without even realizing it. She doesn’t need words to understand. You don’t need to panic. She will accept you.”
Rohan nodded, feeling a little lighter. His mother was always wise, always patient. But there was still one thing on his mind. “Do you know when her birthday is?” he asked quietly.
The Luna’s smile grew wider. “Ah, the Moon Goddess is kind. Abigail’s birthday is in a month. You’ll have to be patient just a little while longer, my son.”
“A month,” Rohan murmured, feeling both relieved and tormented. One month. He could wait. He had to.
The Luna squeezed his hand. “You’ve been patient your whole life to become Alpha. One month for your mate is nothing.”
Rohan smiled, grateful for his mother’s guidance. “Thanks, Mom,” he said, standing up. “I needed to hear that.”
The Luna gave him a knowing look as he walked toward the door. “I’m happy for you, Rohan. I can see how much she means to you. You deserve happiness. Don’t let your fears stand in the way of it.”
Rohan gave her a half-smile before leaving her quarters. His heart felt lighter, but still heavy with the ache for Abigail. One month. He could wait. He had to.
He bowed to his father, “you can have your mate to yourself now, your highness”, he said with a smug grin on his face.
As Rohan walked back to his room, his thoughts kept drifting to Abigail. He hadn’t seen her much since the party, and it drove him crazy. Every time he stepped into a room, he expected to see her. Every time he caught a glimpse of someone with hair like hers or a delicate scent in the air, his heart would race. But it was never her.
His best friend and Beta, noticed his odd behavior during their training sessions. Rohan couldn’t concentrate. He couldn’t focus. He kept hearing her laughter in his mind. He kept feeling her presence even when she wasn’t there. Dean, his wolf, was growing impatient, urging Rohan to stop holding back, to claim their mate already.
But Rohan wasn’t ready to rush things. Not yet. He knew how important this bond was. He wanted to take it slow. Let Abigail come to him on her own.
Dean, however, wasn’t as patient. “You’re torturing yourself, Rohan,” he said in a voice full of frustration. “Just go to her. We both know she’s ours.”
“We need to be patient, Dean,” Rohan replied, his voice tense. “She’s worth the wait.”
Dean growled softly in his mind, but he stayed silent, resigned to the fact that Rohan wasn’t going to act on his own desires just yet.
As the weekend passed, Rohan found himself distracted more than ever. He spent less time with his friends and more time at the pack house, trying to focus on his duties as Alpha. But his mind kept wandering back to Abigail. Her scent. Her beauty. Her quiet strength.
He didn’t know how much longer he could keep this up. He didn’t know how much longer he could wait for her to realize that she was his.
But one thing was certain. He would wait as long as it took. For her.
