Malibu woke early the next morning, and after dressing, brushing her teeth and the rest, she joined Max for a hearty breakfast of bagels with cream cheese, coffee, and cantaloupe with prosciutto. The half-and-half was held in a tiny stainless steel bell creamer. There were cloth napkins and crystal glasses were used to hold orange juice. They sat at a round table next to a window that looked out on a garden. The suffocating fog had lifted and morning sunlight coated the plants and flowers. A fresh vase of flowers stood in the middle of the table. As Malibu munched on a particularly juicy piece of cantaloupe, she thought she could get used to this lifestyle.
