Clara shot up from her chair, panic written all over her face. "Mom! What happened? Is it bad?"
Her mother, Amelia, sounded on the verge of tears. "They just rushed him into emergency surgery, Clara. Your father's out of town on a business trip and can't make it. You need to come right away!"
"Mom, don't worry! I'm on my way!" Clara hung up, already heading for the door. She turned back to Sullivan as she grabbed her coat. "Sullivan, Jacob's been in a car accident. I have to go to the hospital now!"
"I'll come with you." Sullivan stood quickly, but as he did, a wave of dizziness washed over him.
"Okay. Wait a minute. Let me get changed first." Clara paused mid-step, noticing his sudden unsteadiness. "Wait, Sullivan... what's wrong?"
