JJ peered around the corner of the dark hallway, his eyes unbothered by the dim, murky house. He had grown accustomed to the fact that it was far safer to block out every window when they arrived at a new place, rather than risking attracting a passing clicker, or worse. He had been perched in this position for at least half an hour now, waiting for his opportunity, and as Max opened the door at the far end of the corridor, he made his move. JJ closed the door to his left, loud enough to make it obvious to Max, before strutting nonchalantly towards the stairs, as if he had planned to grab a snack or some water from the kitchen.
