The compact house was on a curve in the road, wedged between others on the crowded street. He stepped up onto the wraparound porch and knocked twice. Romina opened the front door and appraised him with sharp eyes. After a moment her pinched lips broke into a cautious smile. “Buenas noches. She’s almost ready.
