"Laura? Laura!"
Cody picked her up and patted her face. "What's wrong with you? Are you not feeling well?"
Laura frowned as the bright lights almost blinded her. "It's so dark...Don't leave me alone..." Cody couldn't make out whether she was talking to him or to herself.

Cody's heart instantly softened. He thought of the little girl he had once met. She was also afraid of the dark. Her face was pale from fear as she curled up beside him.
Cody felt a surge of pity for Laura and said gently, "Don't be afraid. It's okay. I'll take you home."
Hearing his words, Laura visibly relaxed. Her body stopped trembling, but she continued mumbling under her breath. Cody couldn't hear her words clearly, however, he was focused on taking her home for now.
