12. Because Her Wolf Is AWOL

_______________________ . . . ~ JAMIE ~ . "I hate my life." I mumbled as I navigated through the crowd. "I don't understand a word they are saying." That's a lie. A psychopath does not need coaching in psychopathy. "It was all your idea, Jamie." Maria said. "So don't be a wussy and see this to the end." I rolled my eyes. "You are saying that because you don't want me to quit and come up with some other bizarre idea." I pointed out. See, I do not need a degree to know what people are thinking. "I am so glad to know that you do have the self awareness that all your ideas are bizarre." Ody let out a snort which he covered up with some pathetic excuses of coughs when I gave him the side eye. "You think my ideas are bizarre. You ask me to move on and forget the past but you are basically my jailer. That sort of makes you a hypocrite." "Jamie..." There it is again. "Jamie!" The trio whipped around as if someone had flipped a switch to rotate the floor tiles. I, on the other hand, turned around slowly, knowing very well what was in store for me. And I was right. (I am always right.) Natasha did not look happy to see me. In fact, her eyes seemed like it was willing me to snap my neck and die. Noah, on the other hand, basically had hearts in his eyes. What's with men and their obsession with forbidden fruits? I would be married to Rowan if I was a human. He should not be hitting on a married woman. Well, he doesn't know that. Wait a minute, he might not know about Rowan. But I had told him that I was dating a Felix, right? Why was he eyeing a committed woman? Honestly I did not know how relationships worked in the human world. I had minimal to nil exposure to it. "Hello Natasha. Noah." I nodded to them. "Where's Felix?" Natasha asked, her chirpy voice dripping with sugar syrup. Maria immediately gave me a discrete look. She knew a faker when she saw one. Except, she couldn't figure out the one who had been living with her for the past four years. "He wanted to try out for the track team." I shrugged. Everyone had acted so reluctant about the college experience but now that we were enrolled, they wanted to try the clubs and sports and everything. "Shouldn't you be cheering your boyfriend on?" She asked. "And are these your friends?" Her eyes lingered on Maria. Yeah, she was thirty but looked much older due to the amount of stress I gave her. Oops. I take full responsibility for that. "Yeah. My elder sister Maria and my friend Ody." I pointed to each of them. Maria raised a brow at me. I know I know, we looked nothing like siblings. But we could always clarified that we were step-sisters, right? "So you guys came here as a pack?" Maybe I was being paranoid but there was something completely different about the way she asked that question. And one glance at Maria and Ody was enough for me to realise that I was not wrong - they felt it too. "Pack?" Noah snorted. "Dude, you have been reading too much of your werewolf novels again, huh? And what's with the interrogation?" Ody smiled at Noah to diffuse the tension, but Maria was not having it. She sensed some sort of a hostile environment and she wanted me out of there, so she grabbed my arm. "We should get going." She said. "Jamie must have already told you we are working on a book so..." "Four people on a book? Don't too many chefs spoil the broth?" "We are simultaneously making a web comic. That's why." Ody replied coolly. Sometimes I forget that he is a warrior, that too of one of the most powerful pack in North America. "Oh come on, I was counting on hanging out with you guys." Noah pouted. Manchild. "Some other time Noah. Can't you see they are busy?" I could not help but scrunch up my face. I was blind to the bitchiness of this b***h? When she had it at this level? She was so nice and chirpy and annoying just yesterday. But now, all of a sudden, she is a fake plastic doll? A complete mean girl? I should go brush up my b***h radar. "Yeah. Some other time." I said. And we were on our way. "Why was she talking like that?" Ody asked. "You guys think she is a werewolf?" I asked. I knew for a fact that she was not a werewolf because she was wearing silver on her finger and not having it being severed off of her hand. But I needed to act clueless. "No." Maria shrugged. "She is not. We could have sensed her. You couldn't because-" She stopped midway and I had to suppress my smile. I am one hell of an actor, aren't I? "Because?" Ody prodded as he took the car keys out, unlocking our SUV. "Because her wolf is AWOL." . "Her wolf is not AWOL." Ody rolled his eyes before he hopped into the driver's seat. I was curious. What did he mean by that statement. I made my way into the passenger's seat while Maria got into the back seat. "What did you mean by that?" Maria asked before I could put the question forward. "Well, she is still a werewolf. That means the wolf is still inside her." He looked between Maria and me. "Doesn't it?" "But I have even felt any sort of evidence of her presence in the last four years." I said and my wolf was pretty amused by my statement. "Something is suppressing her." Ody shrugged as he pulled the car out of the parking lot and onto the road. I looked at the rearview mirror and was met with Maria's stare. She shook her head, silently asking me to drop the topic. I nodded. I didn't want to be outed either. "I hope whatever is suppressing her keeps suppressing her." She said. "Me too." My wolf let out a growl when she heard that so I had to clarify to her that the only person who can suppress her was me and since we a Were the same person, it was not exactly suppressing. But there was a limit to which I could make my wolf understand and so she remained mad and bitchy. Suit yourself. "I want McDonald's." I clapped my hands happily. "We have food at home." Maria was quick to say. Ody and I looked at each other and then at Maria. "You sound like my mom." We said in unison. . . . ______________________
