Chapter 4

Its been two weeks since that incident happened, and before leaving his place she left a note of gratitude. Shan was busy with her usual life, she’s now at her office reading and signing some documents. “President, here are the files you need.” “Hmm… just put it there.” Shan was really serious with her work and didn’t bother to give her a glance. Sam has been working with her for almost three years as an assistant. It's a given that she’s familiar with the president's working ethic but only half familiar with the president's personal life. Aside from Sam, Shan had her personal assistant/overall assistant who was one year older than her. But for now he’s enjoying his two weeks' paid leave outside the country. Sam excused herself and went back to her table outside the CEO’s office. It was almost launch time when Shan received a message from her mother. ‘Where are you right now?’ Shan picked up her phone and dialed her mother's number. “Hello mom, I’m at the office right now. Did something happen?” “Well, your dad invited his close friend for dinner and he wants you to be home before six.” Shan picked one of the folders on her table to check her schedule. “I’m not sure if I can, mom. I still have to meet a client this afternoon.” “Honey, tell her that it’s a thank you dinner… wait what, a thank you dinner?... Ah, that’s… our daughter will explain it to you… Ari, what’s that about? You’re hiding something from me?” Shan totally forgot that she still didn’t talk with her mom about what happened in country X. She thinks it doesn’t matter anymore since its all in the past and everything was alright. “It’s nothing serious… And mom told you to stop calling me that nickname.” “What’s wrong with calling you by your name, and don’t you ever dare make excuses, Shanaria. Make sure you come home this evening!” The last phrase was a loud and clear voice full of authority coming from her mom. “Mom, I still have a meeting bye. Love you.” Before her mother could speak, she had already hung up the call. A deep sigh came out of her mouth as she put her phone on the table and leaned her back on her chair. “A thank you dinner? Hmm, does that mean he’s coming? Well, who cares if he's coming or not...” She murmured. A knock on the door brings her back to reality, but she still has her mind wondering about the dinner. “President, should I order lunch for you?” Shan glanced at her watch, it was lunch time already but she was not yet done signing and reading the files. “It’s not necessary, just bring me a cold drink.” It took a minute before Sam came back with a packed lunch from a nearby restaurant with the cold drink. “President, the meeting will start in ten minutes.” Sam glanced at the table where she put the food and noticed that it was still there and had never touched the same thing with the cold drink. “How about the files I asked you about?” Sam was startled for a second. “Ma'am, it's already on your table.” Shan looked at her table and saw a pile of folders. “President, are you alright? Should I move the meeting?” “No need, please bring this with us.” “But you haven’t eaten anything.” “I’ll eat after the meeting.” She said as she stood up and prepared herself for the meeting. They arrived at the conference hall at the exact time. It’s not like it’s the first time Sam noticed that Shan was sometimes skipping her lunch, especially this month. “Let’s start the meeting. Sam, give them the copy!” “That is the proposal given by the Development Department…” The meeting ran for three hours and a half, and it’s now almost four pm. Shan was sitting in her office while checking some data. “Sam, please get me a coffee.” Not long after, Sam went inside with a cup of coffee. “I want ten copies of this file, and five copies for this file. Hand it to me before five.” Shan said while handing the files to Sam. “By the way, send a memo to the production and finance manager. I'll be meeting them tomorrow morning before 9...” Before Sam could respond, Shan’s phone made a sound. She answered it while her eyes went back to the data on her computer. “Shanaria, I just want to remind you about the dinner.” “Mom, I still have a lot of work to do!” “What lot of work? Does that mean work is more important than us?” “Well, you can say so mom.” She said, with a smirk on her lips. “HANS LARE did you just hear what your daughter said, SHE LOVES HER WORK MORE THAN US!” her mother complained. “Yeah, that’s my daughter and you gave birth to her.” Shan ended the call, resting her back and making herself face the glass walls that overview the city. Does he have a girlfriend already? What if he does? He is such a beauty it’s a waste if he can't be mine. “Its not bad being a villainess, if your intention is saving a beauty, right?” A sweet smile appeared on her lips. Shan excitedly spun on her chair and stood up, picking up her bag and phone. A clueless full of wonder was visible on Sam’s face. “Cancel my appointment this evening. No need to follow me, just do your work.” Shan said as she walked out of her office. Sam, who was left in the office, frowned. “What was that? Did I miss something?” Forty minutes later, Shan enter a big store in Country A. Greeting from employees of the store welcome her with a smile full of politeness. Shan glanced at her watch, she still had an hour. She went directly straight inside the room of the store. "Oh, what wind brings such beauty but a single lady in my store?" Shan rolled her eyes. "I have dinner tonight." "Yeah sure, what else could be the reason?" The girl said and got near her to give her a hug. Her name is Cathy one of Shan's friend, she is the owner of this boutique. "Why don't you hunt a hotty just once?" "Its not necessary." "Sigh, what's the point of having such a perfect body and beauty if you don't even have lover?" "Is that really a big deal?" "Hell yeah, anyways, what kind of dinner is it today?" "Family dinner, just help me pick a dress and stop asking too much."
