Maya ~_< I’m not sure what wakes me up—the beeping sound of some stupid fire alarm or the murderous headache pounding behind my eyes. I try to open one eye, but the light forces it shut again. Ugh, what the hell? Why does my head feel like it’s been stepped on by a herd of cows? I shift slightly and wince. My body feels… off. Like I’m floating but weighed down at the same time. My mouth is dry, my throat sore, and there’s this weird stiffness in my arm. Then I hear it. Not an alarm—more like a steady, robotic beep. Wait. I blink again, this time pushing past the blinding light. The ceiling is too white and too bright. The air reeks of antiseptic and something cold, like metal and wet cotton. My eyes flicker to the side. IV drip, monitors, a hospotal bed. I’m in a hospital. W
