As she stepped into the garden, seeking a quiet space to calm herself, a familiar voice emerged from the shadows. “Catherine,” John called, his tone gentle, almost sympathetic. He appeared from a shaded path lined with trees, his demeanor relaxed, as if he had been there all evening, waiting for this moment. Catherine took a deep breath, silently reminding herself to keep her emotions in check. “John,” she responded, her voice steady, “what are you doing here?” John smirked and stepped closer. “Just taking a walk. But it seems I’m not the only one who needs some fresh air.” Catherine watched him, her gaze cautious. “Yes, I just needed a moment to think.” John stopped a few paces from her, tilting his head slightly as if studying her expression more closely. “What did Lily say to you?”
