The Devil Chose Her

The first bullet whizzed past Damien’s head and slammed into the concrete wall behind him. Damien moved on pure instinct. He dropped low, gun already in his hand, and fired back twice. One of Victor’s men dropped with a grunt. The other two rushed in raising their guns. “Get down!” Damien barked at Lila, even though she was chained and couldn’t really move. He threw himself in front of the bed, shielding her naked body with his own as another shot rang out. His mind was split in two. Part of him wanted to finish what he started with her; those soft moans, the way her p***y had clenched around his fingers, the innocent way she cried while getting wet for him. The other part, the cold Don who had survived many years of blood, knew this attack changed everything. Victor Voss wasn’t playing. He had found this secondary location too fast. Damien fired again. The second intruder fell, clutching his shoulder. The last man tried to reach Lila, eyes wide with recognition. “Miss Voss! We’re here to—” Damien didn’t let him finish. He tackled the man hard, slamming him into the wall. The gun clattered to the floor. Damien’s fist connected with the man’s jaw once, twice, three times and then blood sprayed. “You think you can take her from me?” Damien growled, voice low and deadly. He pressed his knee into the man’s chest and put the barrel of his gun against his forehead. The man gasped, eyes darting toward Lila. “Her father… he’ll pay anything… just let her go…” Damien glanced back at Lila. She was curled up as much as the chains allowed, eyes wide with terror, tears still on her face. Her naked body was shaking. She looked so small and breakable. Something twisted in his chest again. That annoying pull. He should kill this man slowly. Send his head back to Victor as a message. But Lila was watching. Those scared eyes were on him. But regardless he pressed the gun harder and then he pulled the trigger. The sound echoed in the small basement. The man went still. Damien stood up slowly, breathing hard. Blood was on his shirt. He wiped his hand on his pants and turned back to Lila. She was staring at the dead man, face pale. Her lips moved but no sound came out at first. “You… you killed him,” she whispered. “Just like that.” Damien walked over to her. He could hear more shouting upstairs. He unlocked the wrist chains first, then the ankles. Lila immediately tried to cover herself with her arms, curling into a ball. He grabbed a blanket from the corner shelf and threw it over her. “Get up,” he said. “We’re moving.” Lila clutched the blanket to her chest, still shaking. “Where are you taking me? Please… my father is coming. Just let me go to him.” Damien looked at her for a second. Her hair was messy, her eyes red from crying, her lips still trembling. She was terrified of him, but her body had responded to his touch earlier. That memory made his c**k twitch even now, in the middle of f*****g chaos. He grabbed her arm and pulled her up, wrapping the blanket tighter around her naked body. “Your father sent men to die tonight,” he said quietly. “If I let you go now, he’ll think I’m weak. And I’m not weak.” He pushed her toward the hidden back door of the basement, the one that led to the underground garage. Gunshots were getting louder upstairs. Marco was probably holding them off, but it wouldn’t last long. Lila stumbled beside him, bare feet cold on the concrete. “I’m scared,” she said softly. “I don’t understand what you want from me.” Damien stopped for a second at the door. He looked down at her. His hand came up and brushed a tear from her cheek without thinking. “I don’t know yet either,” he admitted, voice low. It was the most honest thing he had said all night. Then he opened the door and pulled her through. They stepped into the dark garage. His black SUV was waiting. But as they reached it, bright headlights suddenly flooded the space from the entrance ramp. More of Victor’s men. Damien shoved Lila behind him, raising his gun. “Stay behind me,” he ordered. One of the new arrivals stepped forward, voice loud and angry. “Give us the girl, Moretti! Mr. Voss wants his daughter back alive.” Damien’s finger rested on the trigger. He could feel Lila’s small hands clutching the back of his shirt through the blanket. Her body was pressed against him, soft and trembling. He smiled coldly. “Tell Victor she’s mine now.”
