Cassie's POV
At first, I didn't understand why the man who was a bit snobby to me while I conversed with him was suddenly dying to go home and apparently spend a night with me.
I was flustered, to be honest, and I couldn't stop thinking about what awaited me at the lovely mansion I was moving into.
I grabbed the last of my things hurriedly from my room just as mom walked in, wearing a bright smile on her face as though she had not just ruined my life for me.
"What is it mom?" I asked, impatiently.
"Honey, I know you're mad at me, but if you really look at this well, you'll appreciate what we did for you. You got married to the son of the most influential and powerful family in New York. Honey, whenever people hear your last name, they'll be willing to do anything for you. Isn't that cool?"
Yeah, right.
"It's cool, like your marriage with Dad. Tell me, mom, did you marry dad for his money? Is that why you were so insistent on me marrying Lionel? Is that why you think people would do anything for me because of my last name?"
She was really taken aback by my question and looked visibly hurt, but I didn't bother. I was more hurt than she was.
I have to spend the rest of my life with someone I didn't love at all just because of their stupid plans to remain wealthy.
They chose me as the sacrificial lamb for their greed.
"Don't say that, Cassie. I married your father because I loved him," She said, looking upset.
" Why then, mom? Why wasn't I allowed to marry someone I loved? Why? Why force me into this?"
She stared at me for something, trying to think of what to say and sighed heavily, shaking her head at me.
"You won't understand. When you get older and get to a point like we did, then you will understand what we did for you. We were only trying to secure a good future for you. We did it because we love you."
I wanted to say something else, but I shook my head. There was no use. The deed was done. I was already married to him regardless. Having an argument with Mom now would only mean that I was trying to hurt myself more.
I felt disappointed though. Disappointed at the fact that my parents only thought of me as a way to make more money.
"Fine. Goodbye mother, "I said with finality and walked past her, holding the last of my luggage.
I walked down the stairs and when I got close to the door, I turned back and looked around at the beautiful house I grew up in.
It was probably nothing compared to that of the Houston's, but it was home to me, and I was going to miss it a lot.
"Miss Cassie, "the maid murmured softly, taking some steps towards me.
I dropped my luggage and raised my hands to hug them.
This was family, this was the people I grew up with and the realization that I was going to be apart from them for a while really hit me hard, and I felt like crying.
I was going to a place where I knew no one, to a place where I would probably feel really lonely. I wish I could take them with me, but I couldn't. Some of them have not been paid yet due to the debts that dad had when we were financially drained.
"I'll miss you all so much, " I murmured as I hugged each one of them.
"Goodbye, Miss Cassie, " They cried.
"Goodbye," I said with a lump in my throat.
I won't cry, at least not in front of them.
Taking a step back, I forced a smile on my face and grabbed my suitcase. I waved at them one last time and turned to leave the house.
The driver was already waiting for me and collecting the luggage from me, taking the lead to the car.
"Cassie!" I heard a familiar voice call me and I turned so fast to see if it was actually the person I thought it was.
"Jane!!" I cried happily as I ran to hug her.
She smiled at me and hugged me tight, wrapping her arms around my waist as though she didn't want me to leave.
"You thought you were going to leave without saying goodbye to me? You thought I'd let you?" I asked, holding my face with both of her hands.
"I'm sorry," I said, blinking heavily at the tears that threatened to fall off.
" I won't let you go. I won't let you be alone. Trust me, I'll cling to you twenty-four seven. I'll visit you every day and call you and make that husband of yours wish he never took you away from me."
I smiled with relief. The fact that Jane was going to pay me a visit alone was enough to calm my nerves. I wasn't going to be alone, at least.
"Are you ready, big girl?" She asked, patting my back lightly, "I know you never wanted this, but I guess something is going to happen this night, isn't it?" She winked.
I shook my head at her. Nancy, always thinking of something else!
"Shut up!" I laughed.
"Goodbye, Cass. I'll see you soon. I love you," She said, hugging me lightly this time.
"I love you too, Goodbye, Jayjay," I waved and watched as she walked away before I got into the car.
As we drove away, I couldn't help but think of what she said. I didn't want to think about it, but it seems as if Lionel really planned something for me, despite the fact that he doesn't love me.
Well, I guess he got attracted to me at first sight. I chuckled softly. I had no interest in him whatsoever, but I wouldn't mind him having an interest in me. At least, I wouldn't be bored.
The car stopped at the huge mansion and as I walked out of it to admire the beauty, I saw Lionel standing next to a beautiful and sexy-looking lady.
They were kissing!
